you concerning your faith:
-
Paul couldn't stand it any longer and he sent
Timotheus and Silvanus on to them, while he
remained in Athens.
-
He was concerned about them and sent these two
teachers to check that Satan had not hindered
them and also to comfort them in their faith.
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know
that we are appointed thereunto.
We were appointed to suffer these afflictions.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should
suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your
faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour
be in vain.
I had to know, if you were still following the
things I told you to do.
Who is the tempter?

things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

-
So Paul says here,
if some of the branches are broken off the

the Israelites.
-
And the Gentiles from a wild olive tree were
grafted, then the Gentiles who truly love Jesus,
are grafted to this natural tree.

-
You have followed the example of the churches in
Judea and have suffered of your people the same
as those in Jerusalem suffered of the Jews,
meaning the Kenites and Paul identifies them in
the next verse.
15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have
persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
Paul is talking about the Kenites here directly
and pretty strongly.
He's blaming the death of Christ upon them and
accuses them of ungodliness.
