Matthew 16

Matthew 16

The Book of Matthew, The Structure of The Book As A Whole   Hebrews 6

Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
  • Ye not discern the signs of the times
  • They can't see what in front of them, Jesus
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
  • The sign of the prophet Jonas
  • Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
  • Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees = false teaching
  • Leaven is yeast.
  • If you put a little leaven in the dough, it will saturate the whole loaf.
  • If you allow the enemy to put a lie into the doctrine, it will go through the whole Church.
  • Nip lies in the bud. Don't tolerate false doctrine.
  • Of course, the disciples think Jesus is talking about bread.
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
  • The disciples momentarily lost the key of knowledge.
8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
  • The disciples momentarily lost the key of knowledge.
9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
  • They picked up twelve baskets and seven baskets respectively.
  • The point is there is enough truth and knowledge for everyone.
  • Seek truth and knowledge.
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
  • We must always be on guard for false doctrines.
  • That is the lesson Jesus would have us learn.
  • Beware of false teachings
  • Always document what you hear in God's Word.
  • God's Word is the key of knowledge.
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
  • The people didn't know. They were guessing
  • Elias = Elijah
  • Jeremias = Jeremiah
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
  • Simon =  to hear intelligently
  • Peter = a (piece of) rock
  • Why would Jesus follow the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees lesson with this question?
  • You must know who the true Christ is, or you don't have the key of knowledge.
  • Many will be deceived by the anti-christ.
  • They are waiting to be rapture out of here.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
  • "Bar-Jonah" means "son of the dove".
  • The dove is always symbolic of the Holy Spirit
  • The Holy Spirit led Peter to this correct conclusion.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
  • That is why it is so important for you to process the key of knowledge.
  • The gates of hell can not prevail against you.
  • The enemy can not come against you, if you utilize the power Christ gave you over all of your enemies
  • Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
  • Don't ever forget the power is in the name of Jesus Christ.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
  • I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven
  • In other words, if you will teach Who the true Christ is and if you teach what the unforgivable sin is, it will stand on earth and in heaven.
  • That which God forgives on earth is already forgiven in heaven.
  • The unforgivable sin will not be forgiven on earth or in heaven.
  • Make certain you have the key of knowledge.
  • Good reading Matthew13 = Jesus is explaining the parable of the tares.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
  • Then said Jesus unto his disciples, take up his cross, and follow me.
  • Meaning you are willing to follow God's Ways which is the truth
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
  • He shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Exactly 2520 years from the exile of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.

The first tribe to be conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh, in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.

(Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel that if they persisted in continually breaking His Laws, not only would curses come upon them.

He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them among the heathens (like lost sheep)
