Psalms 118

Psalms 118                                                                   Book of Psalms   Book of Psalms

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,

Psalms 118:1 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.
  • Mercy = loving kindness, or grace.
2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

4 Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

5 I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.

6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

7 The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
  • Remember this = Put your trust in God
  • Trust = flee for refuge
  • Refuge = Shelter or protection from danger or distress.
  • Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
9 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
  • Princes = rulers
  • Don't put your trust in Governments
10 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them.

11 They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
  • Some people can't see the power that God has
  • If you can see, you know the power that God has
12 They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
  • Are quenched = Septuagint reads "blazed up"
  • God's going to take care of the wicked, those that follow satan
13 Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the Lord helped me.
  • There will always be people that will try to bring down God's word
  • It's your job to know who they are (Matthew 13)
  • God said, learn the parable of the fig tree (Mark 13)
14 The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.
  • The Lord is My strength
  • The Lord is My Salvation
  • Psalms 118:21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
  • For Him Who Saves = My Saviour
  • The Lord is My song = for the theme of the song
  • For Him Who Saves = My Saviour
15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.
  • Tabernacles = tents, or dwellings
  • God Right hand is what guides you, God Is In Control
16 The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
  • If your with God, you will live forever
18 The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.
  • God going to correct you, when you do something worry.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord:
  • As Jesus taught in Revelation 3:20, "Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me."
  • Note that action is required on our part. We must be willing to open the door and hear His voice with understanding. To "sup" means to share deeper truths.
20 This gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter.

21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
  • There's only one God
  • 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
  • Don't put your trust in man, rulers etc.. only in God.
  • The stone = The Messiah
  • Genesis 49:24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
25 Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:
  • A stone of stumbling = Isaiah 8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
  • A "tried stone", "precious", "sure = The rejected stone = The true foundation
  • Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
  • God will gather His elect together, to do His work in the end times.
  • God's elect =  they know they will stand against Satan in the end times.
  • Psalms 109:27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
  • Save Now =  Is the Hebrew word  "Hosanna" = Save, I pray
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.
  • All Blessing comes from God.
27 God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
  • Sacrifice = a feast, or festal
  • Sacrifice of today = your love
  • Cords = wreaths, or garlands =  today is blessing from God
  • Exodus 28:14 And two chains of pure gold at the ends; of wreathen work shalt thou make them, and fasten the wreathen chains to the ouches.
  • Even unto = Acts 14:13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

29 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
  • Mercy = Love
  • God will forgive you, but some men will not.
  • It's man that thinks he is better than God, these don't study the word.
  • They live as the world = Satan world.

Exactly 2520 years from the exile of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.

The first tribe to be conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh, in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.

(Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel that if they persisted in continually breaking His Laws, not only would curses come upon them.

He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them among the heathens (like lost sheep)
