The Words of God to Jeremiah, Ensamples of The End
Times
The Book of Jeremiah
The prophecies of Jeremiah do not profess to be given in chronological order;
nor is there any reason why they should be so given. It is the historical portions, which concern JEHOIAKIM and ZEDEKIAH,
that are chiefly so affected. And, Who was Jehoiakim that his history should be
of any importance? Was it not he who "cut up the Word of God with a penknife,
and cast it in the fire"? Why should not his history be "cut up"? ZEDEKIAH
rejected the same Word of God. Why should his history be respected?
Jeremiah's prophecy is dated (Jeremiah 1:2,3) as being "in the days of Josiah
... in the thirteenth year of his reign. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim
the son of Josiah ... unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah ... unto the
carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month."
The 13th year of Josiah was 518 B.C. The 11th year of Zedekiah was 477 B.C.
Therefore the whole period covered by Jeremiah was 41 years.
It is highly probable that this period was exactly forty years the last
probationary period vouchsafed by God, before Jerusalem was destroyed and the
Temple burnt. But, as the month in the thirteenth year of Josiah, at which the
Word first came to Jeremiah, is not stated, the whole period has to be shown as
above, 41 years.
Jeremiah 1:1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were
in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
2 To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king
of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto
the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto
the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth
out of the womb I sanctified thee, and
I ordained thee a prophet unto the
nations.
God ordained Jeremiah to warn the people. In the last Days, God will
send us Elijah to warn the people. (Jeremiah 29)
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the
great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying,
Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city,
because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication.
Revelation 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and
scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and
pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and
filthiness of her fornication:
-
The great city having a wondrous and attractive idolatrous full of
abominations, having the unclean provisions for her idolatrous
practices.
-
The great city is described as having all luxuries, combined
with her idolatrous worship.
-
The woman = The "great city is Babylon, or
state of confusion - verse 18
-
A golden cup in her hand full of
abominations and
filthiness of her fornication: We see that the system
accumulates great material wealth.
-
Her cup is the filthiness of her
deception = idolatry
-
Jeremiah 51:7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made
all the
earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her; therefore the
nations are mad.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for
her pain, if so she may be healed.
-
What make her a harlots?
-
Deceptions
-
Purple and scarlet = royal
Revelation 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is
that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the
earth.
The city is Babylon, Babylon means confusion. Satan's seed the Kenites brings in confusion,
fornication, false teaching and
idolatry.
Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF
THE EARTH.
Jeremiah, Whom God Has Appointed, was "the son of Hilkiah of the priests that
were in Anathoth."
A priest who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah, probably the same as he of
Nehemiah 12:34
who took part in the procession at the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem.
Nehemiah 10:2 Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah
Nehemiah 12:34 Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah
The great prophecy of the seventy years of Babylonian, by one of the most
important date-marks in the Scriptures:
"The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of
Judah IN THE FOURTH YEAR OF JEHOIAKIM the son of
Josiah king of
Judah, that WAS THE FIRST YEAR OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR king of
Babylon; the which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the
people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
saying,
From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king
of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth
year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me."
As the end of the kingdom of Judah drew near, many of the Jews were determined
to go into Egypt; and this in spite of the warning given by God through
Jeremiah.
In Jeremiah 44 we have the latest prophecy concerning those who had gone
thither; which declared that they should not escape, but should be consumed
there.
Jeremiah 44:27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and
all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the
sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
This prophecy must have been fulfilled concerning that
generation; but their successors, or others that subsequently followed,
continued there a little longer, until the time came for Egypt itself to fall
into the hands of Babylon.

Joel's prophecy relates to the end of the Kingdom of Judah, and
probably covers the last seven years of Jedekiah.
In that case he would commence in the fifth year of Jehoiachin's
captivity, the very year that Ezekiel begins, and 100 years
after Isaiah ends.
If "Joel completed his prophecy before Amos
collected his" (as alleged), then, in the period of Uzziah-Jeroboam
II, which ended in 687 B.C.
He was called very young (B.C. 626) to the prophetic
office, and prophesied forty-two years; but we have hardly any mention of him
during the eighteen years between his call and Josiah's death, or during the
short reign of Jehoahaz.
During the reigns of Jehoiakim and Jehoiachin, B.C.
607-598, he opposed the Egyptian party, then dominant in Jerusalem, and
maintained that they only way of safety lay in accepting the supremacy of the
Chaldeans.
He was accordingly accused of treachery, and men claiming to
be prophets had the "word of God" to set against his.
Jeremiah 14:13 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them,
Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you
assured peace in this place.
14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name:
I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they
prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the
deceit of their heart.
Jeremiah 23:7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that
they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel
out of the land of Egypt;
As the danger from the Chaldeans became more threatening, the persecution
against Jeremiah grew hotter.
Jeremiah 18. The people sought his life; then follows
the scene in
Jeremiah 19:10 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that
go with thee,
11 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break
this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be
made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
12 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to the inhabitants
thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:
13 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be
defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they
have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink
offerings unto other gods.
He was set, however, "as a fenced brazen wall,".
Jeremiah 15:20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen
wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against
thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the
LORD.
And went on with his work, reproving king and nobles and people. The danger
which Jeremiah had so long foretold at last came near.
First Jehoiakim, and afterwards his successor Jehoiachin,
were carried into exile, 2Kings 24; but Zedekiah, B.C. 597-586,
who was appointed by Nebuchadnezzar, was more friendly to the prophet, though
powerless to help him.
The approach of an Egyptian army, and the consequent
departure of the Chaldeans, made the position of Jeremiah full of danger,
and he sought to effect his escape from the city; but he was
seized and finally thrown into a prison-pit to die, but
was rescued.
On the return of the Chaldean army he showed his faith in God's promises, and
sought to encourage the people by purchasing the field at Anathoth which his
kinsman Hanameel wished to get rid of.
Jeremiah 32:6 And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
7 Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to
buy it.
8 So Hanameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according
to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in
Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is
thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this
was the word of the Lord.
9 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and
weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
At last the blow came. The city was taken, the temple burnt.
The king and his princes shared the fate of Jehoiachin.
The prophet gave utterance to his sorrow in the Lamentations.
After the capture of Jerusalem, B.C. 586, by the Chaldeans,
we find Jeremiah receiving better treatment; but after the death of
Gedaliah, the people, disregarding his warnings, took refuge in Egypt,
carrying the prophet with them.
In captivity his words were sharper and stronger than ever. He did not
shrink, even there, from speaking of the Chaldean king once more as "the servant
of God."
Jeremiah 43:10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of
Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my
servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall
spread his royal pavilion over them.
"A reign of terror had commenced (in the preceding reign),
during which not only the prophets but all who were distinguished for
religion and virtue were cruelly murdered."
"The nation tried to extirpate the religion of God; "Idolatry was openly
established," and such was the universal dishonesty that no man trusted
another, and society was utterly disorganized."
• Exactly 2520 years from the exile
of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
•
The first tribe to be
conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh,
in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.
(Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel that if they persisted in continually
breaking His Laws, not only would curses come upon them.
He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would
be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them
among the heathens (like lost sheep)
