Ephesians 6

Ephesians 6

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
  • And that promise is in verse 3
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
  • Take care of your father and mother, and live a longer life on earth
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
  • Don't disciples unwisely.
  • Teach your family the difference between right and wrong
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
  • Trembling, Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
  • 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
  • 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
  • 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
  • 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
  • 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
  • 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
  • 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
  • Singlenes, Romans 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
  • The preacher, the one in the administrative field, do these things according to your talent, simply, earnestly and fairly.
6 Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
  • Be a servant of the Lord, Not as a man pleaser..Teach God's Word
7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
  • Teach God's word, not men words
8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
  • You're going to receive the same rewards as the bond or free man does.
  • God is no respecter of persons.
  • He is saying, help people that needs help, if you can.
  • You are to have compassion, meaning love from the heart.
  • Help people with the word of God.
9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
  • He has no favorites is what it says.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might .
  • Get your Interlinear Bible
  • For the rest, brothers of me, be empowered in (the) Lord, and in the might of the  strength of Him.
  • You use that power which He has bestowed upon you.
  • There is a spiritual war going on.
  • This scripture tells us how to prepare for that fight.
  • Never, ever, fight against Satan without calling on the power of God.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
  • Put on the whole armor of God, for to be able you to Stand against the wiles of the devil.
  • You must put on the whole armour of the truth, before you can stand against the deceit of the false christ in the near future.
  • This is addressing you directly.
  • Satan will eat your lunch, unless you have the gospel armour on, and the Holy Spirit with you.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  •  Because We wrestling against blood, wrestling against blood, and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world's rulers of the darkness age of this. Against the spiritual (powers) of evil in this world.
  • Paul is talking about the rulers of darkness, the time of darkness, spoken of by Christ when He was taken by the scribes and Pharisees to be crucified.
  • Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
  • He is stating that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood on the earth but against the deception brought on by the prince of darkness, who is the false christ, or Satan.
  • Now that the enemy is identified, you can better understand the armor as described in the following verse.
  • The devil qualification:
  • 1. Enemy 1 = Rulers of the earth
  • 2. Enemy 2 = The Authorities
  • 3. Enemy 3 = The world ruler of darkness
  • 4. Enemy 4 = The Spiritual (powers) of evil
  • Wrestling in Greek is pale # 3823
  • Again, this is a spiritual war
  • The enemy is Satan
  • Does that frighten you?
  • It shouldn't, if you utilize the power Jesus gave you over all of your enemies
  • Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
  • God is telling us how to prepare.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
  •  Because of this take up the whole armor of God, that you be able to resist in the day evil, and all things having worked out to stand.
  • Understand what we're up against, and Paul lists seven things which you must have.
  • Stand = Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
  • You aren't going to fly away.
  • You are going to make a stand for the true Jesus Christ
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
  •  Stand, therefore, having girded about the lions of you with truth. And putting on the breastplate of righteousness.
  • The girt is your belt. This is your belt of truth.
  • Loins girded, the loose flowing garments fastened up with a belt or girdle, making the men ready for action.
  • Truth will hold your britches up.
  • What does a belt do?
  • It is the last thing you put on that holds everything else together.
  • The true teachings of God hold you together as a unit and as an individual.
  • The breastplate of righteousness would provide justification, so that you would act wisely.
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
  •  And having shod the feet with (the) preparation of the gospel of peace.
  • You be ready to march wherever He sends you and willing for whatever He directs you to say.
  • You will be delivered up before the synagogue, as it is recorded in Mark 13, as a witness for Him.
  • He will use you speaking through you, so be ready to march.
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
  •  Above all, having taken up the shield of faith, by which you will be able, all the darts of the evil one having been made fiery to quench.
  • Faith in what?
  • Faith in Christ.
  • Your shield is Jesus Christ Himself.
  • "Of the wicked" in the Greek is of the wicked one, which of course is Satan.
  • Now if Jesus Christ is your shield, Satan can send countless darts, but none shall penetrate your shield.
  • Most important of all, make sure you have the shield of faith.
  • You can quench Satan's fire, when the Holy Spirit speaks through you.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
  • Also take the helmet of salvation take.
  • The helmet protects the head and salvation comes from the Saviour Himself, and what is your weapon?
  • Revelation 1:16, The sword, which is the word of God.
  • John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  • If you Love Me, keep my commandments
  • 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
  • What's the Comforter?
  • Verse 26, The Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit
  • Who shall teach you?
  • He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance
  • 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
  • What did He say, The Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive
  • Ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
  • John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
  • The Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit
  • 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
  • He talking to His Very Elect
  • He will be using His elect as a tool to speak through them. His word, the truth is the two-edged sword, the Holy Spirit of God will speak through you.
  • Babylon, which comes from the Hebrew word ''babel'', means confusion.
  • This sword of truth is going to cause, present day Babylon to fall, Because a lie cannot stand in front of truth.
  • Bible study hour: Two Edged word
  • Put on the gospel armour so you can quench the fiery darts of Satan.
  • Never, ever, quench the Holy Spirit..
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
  •  And the sword of the Spirit, which is (the) word of God via all prayers and petition, praying at every time in (the) spirit, and to same thing this watching in all.
  • Pray for the elect.
  • You protect one another and ask the Holy Spirit for help.
  • He will hear you and grant that prayer.
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
  • Perseverance and petition concerning all the saints, and for me, that to me may be given speech in opening of the mouth of me in boldness, to make know the mystery of the gospel.
  • It is difficult to simplify Paul's teachings here in Ephesians.
  • What he's saying is, pray these words I have uttered will be understood, by the elect the called out ones.
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
  • He speaking to the Gentiles and at the same time puts the thought across to the elect.
  • He says, I hope you will pray that the saints can understand what I'm saying, because at the same time I must speak boldly because it is my duty to speak to the Gentiles.
  • Paul was giving you part of the mystery here.
  • I hope you can see that.
21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
  • The name Tychicus in the Greek means faithful.
22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
  • Many of you have a note there, written by Tychicus, but I assure you he did not write this epistle.
  • As a matter of fact, this letter was written to more churches than the one at Ephesus.
  • If was left blank at the top and a copy was sent to other churches with their name on it.
  • However, it became recorded as the Ephesians written by Paul, but send  there by Tychicus.
