The Tree of Life
Genesis 2, the promise being, "I will give to eat of the tree of life,
which is in the midst of the paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7).
God begins from Himself. The Apocalypse related not only to Israel, but
to the earth; and the first promise goes back to Eden and to the "tree
of life."
The way to that tree was lost: but was "kept" (or preserved) by the
cherubim (Genesis 3:24). These cherubim next appear in connection with
the way to the Living One, in the Tabernacle, and are thus linked on to
Israel.
Only in Israel's restoration can the way to the "Tree of Life" be
restored.
Sovereignty and government on the earth is the great subject of the
Apocalypse; therefore the promise goes back to the point where
sovereignty was ignored and government was overthrown.
This becomes the starting-point. That is why the cherubim reappear in
the Apocalypse, intimately associated with this work of restoration of
Divine Government on the earth. their song is of "creation" (Revelation
4:11). Their likeness is to creation. Their song is of the redemption of
Israel not their own.
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree
that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of
life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of
knowledge of good and evil.
-
The tree of life = Christ
-
The tree of knowledge of good and evil = Satan
Genesis 3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take
also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to
till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of
Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the
way of the tree of life.
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon
me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the
meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty
to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are
bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance
of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for
ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit
of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former
desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of
many generations.
2 Esdras 2:11Their glory also will I take unto me, and give these the
everlasting tabernacles, which I had prepared for them.
12 They shall have the tree of life for an ointment of
sweet savour; they shall neither labour, nor be weary.
Proverbs 3:12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a
father the son in whom he delighteth.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth
understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver,
and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst
desire are not to be compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and
honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon
her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by
understanding hath he established the heavens.
20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down
the dew.
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith
unto the churches; To him that over cometh will I give to eat of
the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
-
What is the "tree of Life"?
-
It is Jesus Christ Himself
-
He is saying, those of you who have
an ear to hear, will be able to partake directly of His Inheritance.
-
He is in the midst of the paradise
of God
Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me
a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out
of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
-
Ezekiel 47 shows us that this water is
going to flow equally to all twelve gates.
-
This shows the fairness with which
God will feed His people
2 In the midst of
the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the
tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded
her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the
healing of the nations.
-
Remember this tree of life was
planted in the garden of Eden.
-
He put cherubim's there to guard it.
-
Luke 23:31 We know that, Christ is the tree. Because only Gods gives life.
-
The fruit are for the enjoyment of
Israel who dwell within the new city.
-
The leaves are for the healing of
the nations both in and out of the city.
-
Ezekiel 47:12 And by the river upon
the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all
trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit
thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his
months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and
the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for
medicine.
-
We know that sickness was done away
with in
Revelation 21:4
-
So, here we see a divine provision
for preserving joy and fulfillment
-
Which is never boring or even
coming near boredom throughout all eternity
3 And there shall be no more
curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and
his servants shall serve him:
-
Zechariah 14:11 And men shall dwell in
it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem
shall be safely inhabited.
4 And they shall see his
face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
-
His name shall be in their
foreheads
5 And
there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither
light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they
shall reign for ever and ever.
-
The Messiah and the saints reign
for a thousand years.
-
Here we see God reign for ever and
ever
6 And he said unto me,
These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the
holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the
things which must shortly be done.
-
He showed us all this so we would
know what is going to happen.
-
When it is going to happen. And
what His servants must do.
7 Behold, I come
quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy
of this book.
-
Whereas, in verse 6 the angel is
speaking. We see in verse 7 that Christ,
Himself, is giving a very personal message to the elect. When viewed in conjunction with
Revelation 3:11
-
We understand that by keeping and
doing prophecy, You keep or retain the crown you
have earned.
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the
first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right
to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates
into the city.
