1 Peter 5
1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also
an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker
of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight
thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of
a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the
flock.
-
Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto
yourselves, and to all the flock,
over the which the Holy Spirit hath made you
overseers, to feed the church of God, which he
hath purchased with his own blood.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of
glory that fadeth not away.
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of
you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God
resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
-
Sober = of uncertain affinity; to abstain from
wine (keep sober), (figuratively) be discreet.
Be sober, watch.
-
Be Vigilant = to keep awake, watch, be vigilant,
wake, be watchful.
-
Your adversary = Satan (as the arch-enemy)
-
Devour = swallow up = Ezekiel 22:25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the
midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the
prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken
the treasure and precious things; they have made
her many widows in the midst thereof.
-
Daniel 6:24 And the king
commanded, and they brought those men which had
accused Daniel, and they cast them
into the den of lions, them,
their children, and their wives;
and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake
all their bones in pieces or ever they came at
the bottom of the den.
-
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all
people, nations, and languages, that
dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto
you.
26 I make a decree, That in every
dominion of my kingdom men tremble and
fear before the God of Daniel: for he
is the
living God, and stedfast for ever, and
his kingdom that which shall not be
destroyed, and his dominion shall be even
unto the end.
-
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he
worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in
earth, who hath delivered
Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign
of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus
the Persian.
-
Hosea 13:8 I will meet them as a
bear that is bereaved of her whelps,
and will rend the caul of their heart, and
there will I devour them like a lion:
the wild beast shall tear them.
-
Hosea 13:9 O Israel, thou hast
destroyed thyself; but in me
is thine help.
-
Hosea 13:10 I will be thy king:
where is any other that may save thee
in all thy cities? and thy
judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and
princes?
-
11 I gave thee a king in mine
anger, and took
him away in my
wrath.
-
12 The iniquity of Ephraim
is bound up; his
sin is
hid.
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory
by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect,
stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
-
Dominion for ever and ever = government by
God; government by the best; government by the
people
-
Psalm 145:13 Thy kingdom is an
everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion
endureth throughout all generations.
-
14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth
up all those that be bowed down.
15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou
givest them their meat in due season.
-
Daniel 7:13 I saw in the night visions,
and, behold, one
like the Son of man came with the clouds of
heaven, and came to the Ancient of
days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him
dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all
people, nations, and languages,
should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting
dominion, which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom that which shall not be
destroyed.
-
Isaiah 33:22 For the LORD is our
judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD
is our king; he will save us.
12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have
written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace
of God wherein ye stand.
13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth
you; and so doth Marcus my son.
14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all
that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
