2 Kings 11
Book of Kings
2 Kings 11:1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was
dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
-
Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah, she's killing
all of her grandsons so she could set on the
throne
-
2 Kings 8:26 Two and twenty years old was
Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned
one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's
name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king
of Israel.
-
Destroyed: or thought she did. They were left
for dead.
-
The Dynasty of Omri: Athaliah was thus the
granddaughter of Omri, king of Israel, and
daughter of Jezebel. The marriage
between Jehoram and Athaliah was part of Satan's
design to introduce idolatry into Judah, so that
Athaliah might do for Judah what her mother
Jezebel had done for Israel, and thus secure the
same result.
-
Jehoshaphat began by strengthening himself against
Israel, but married his
son to the daughter (an idolatress) of
Ahab, the worst of Israel's
kings. The leaven worked, morally and
politically; and was then used by Satan for the
destruction of the line by which "the seed of
the woman" was to come into the world.
-
Jehoram, king of Judah, began by killing off all
his brethren.
-
The Arabians came
and slew all his sons, save the youngest, Ahaziah, called also Joash, Jehoahaz, and Azariah.
-
Athaliah slew all the sons of Ahaziah on his
death, or thought
she did; but the infant Joash was rescued.
-
Joash (called also Jehoash) was hid for six
years, while the faithfulness of God's word hung
upon the Divine preservation of that infant's
life.
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the
son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and
they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that
he was not slain.
-
Jehosheba = She was the wife of Jehoiada, the
high priest; Jehoiada being brother-in-law to
Ahaziah, and therefore uncle to Joash.
-
2 Chron 22:11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of
the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king's sons that were
slain, and put him and his nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of
king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest,
(for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him
from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
-
From among = Expressive words, pointing to our
Joash, raised from the dead and now hidden in
the house of God on high; and we with Him
3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did
reign over the land.
-
Hid in the house of the LORD = This was the
safest possible place: for it had been broken
up, and everything removed to the house of Baal.
-
The Temple courts were deserted. Hence, Jehoiada
and the priests were plotting for the
restoration of the rightful heir. .
-
2 Chron 24:7 For the sons of Athaliah,
that wicked woman, had broken up the
house of God; and also all the dedicated things
of the house of the Lord did they bestow upon
Baalim.
-
2 Kings 8:22 Yet Edom revolted from under the
hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah
revolted at the same time.
-
Six years = The number of man's defiance and
disorder.
4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with
the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord,
and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the
Lord, and shewed them the king's son.
-
2 Chron 23:1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada
strengthened himself, and took the captains of
hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and
Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the
son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and
Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with
him.
5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third
part of you that enter in on the Sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of
the king's house;
6 And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate
behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken
down.
-
Notice the 1/3 used here three times
-
Revelation 8 = the trumpets uses 1/3 of the
people = means to choose or make a choice
7 And two parts of all you that go forth on the Sabbath, even they shall keep
the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8 And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his
hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the
king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
9 And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada
the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on
the Sabbath, with them that should go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada
the priest.
10 And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David's spears and
shields, that were in the temple of the Lord.
11 And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the
king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple,
along by the altar and the temple.
12 And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him
the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their
hands, and said, God save the king.
13 And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to
the people into the temple of the Lord.
14 And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was,
and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land
rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried,
Treason, Treason.
15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers
of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that
followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain
in the house of the Lord.
16 And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses
came into the king's house: and there was she slain.
17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people,
that they should be the Lord's people; between the king also and the people.
18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it
down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan
the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the
house of the Lord.
-
Notice "ALL the people" of the land went into
the house of baal and destroyed the altars and
images
19 And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and
all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the
Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king's house. And
he
sat on the throne of the kings.
20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they
slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.
-
City was in quiet = been cast out, and slain.
-
So shall it be when judgment shall be executed
on the "prince" and "god" of this world.
-
Revelation 19:1 And after these things I heard a
great voice of much people in heaven, saying,
Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and
power, unto the Lord our God:
2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for
he hath judged the great whore, which did
corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath
avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke
rose up for ever and ever.
4 And the four and twenty elders and the four
beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on
the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying,
Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that
fear him, both small and great.
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great
multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and
as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,
Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to
him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and
his wife hath made herself ready.
-
Beside the king's house = in the king's house.
21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
-
Jehoah was Seven years old = Jehosheba
-
Verse 2
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the
son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and
they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that
he was not slain.
-
Seven = means spiritual completion
• Exactly 2520 years from the exile
of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
•
The first tribe to be
conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh,
in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.
(Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel that if they persisted in continually
breaking His Laws, not only would curses come upon them.
He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would
be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them
among the heathens (like lost sheep)
