Holy Spirit
Let's see how knowledge is absolutely necessary, if
we would please God.
To walk worthy of the Lord, we must know Him. If we would
please Him in all things we must know how to please Him.
2 Timothy 2:10
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they
may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with
eternal glory.
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor
ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the
things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for
the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of
man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man,
but the Spirit of God.
Matthew 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the
Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Matthew 10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver
you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their
synagogues;
-
Of = away from = beware and keep away from
-
You = This was true of the Twelve = Them that heard Him
-
Hebrews 2:3 = in the dispensation of the Acts.
-
To = unto
-
The councils = councils. Courts of justice
18 And ye shall be brought before
governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony
against them and the Gentiles.
-
And = Yea and; or And . . . kings also
-
For My sake = on account of Me
-
For = with a view to.
-
Against = unto
-
Gentiles = nations.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no
thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in
that same hour what ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the
Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
-
Holy Spirit Is the
Spirit of God. It is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father
which speaketh in you.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the
brother to death, and the father the child: and the children
shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to
death.
It's your family that will have you delivered up, because they
think Satan is Christ
Mark 13:8 For
nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall
be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
9 But take heed to yourselves: for
they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye
shall be beaten (mocked): and ye shall be brought before rulers
and kings for my sake, for a testimony against
them.
Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21
Death, another name of Satan
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children
are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took
part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that
had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Mark 13:12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death,
and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their
parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
It's your family that will have you delivered up, because they
think Satan is Christ
Mark 13:12 Now the brother shall betray
the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall
rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to
death.
Revelation 20:14 And death (Satan) and hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death.
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my
name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
-
Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's
sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be
saved.
23 But when they persecute you in this
city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall
not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be
come.
24 The disciple is not above his
master, nor the servant above his lord.
25 It is enough
for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as
his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub,
how much more shall they call them of his household?
26
Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that
shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what
ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill
the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul
and body in hell.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without
your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all
numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value
than many sparrows.
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess
me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is
in heaven.
What is required?
We have to sit down before God's Word, and get
to know Him through His Word.
There is no other way of getting to know Him. And
He has given us His Word, and revealed Himself therein, on purpose that
we may study it and find out what it is that pleases Him; what it is He
loves; what it is He hates; what it is He does.
To get to know His wisdom, His will, His infinite
love, His almighty power, His faithfulness, His holiness, His
righteousness, His truth, His goodness and mercy, His long-suffering,
His gentleness, His care, and all the innumerable attributes of our
great and glorious God.
See how knowledge is absolutely necessary, if
we would please God.
How are we to find out the things that please Him?
How are we to discover the things He approves?
Only From His Word
There, and there alone can we get to know Him. There alone shall we
learn the fullness of the Spirit's prayer for us in; and the blessed
practical outcome of it in.
Ephesians 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may
know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory
of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who
believe, according to the working of his mighty power.
Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease
to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the
knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being
fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto
all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Holy Spirit That teacheth Us
It is most important to notice these. It is absolutely necessary for
true interpretation. God's Word is made up of "words which the Holy
Spirit teacheth".
1
Corinthians
2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of
man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the
Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world,
but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the
things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom
teacheth, but which the Holy Spirit teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:
for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know
them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged
of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct
him? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Thess 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called
you unto his kingdom and glory.
13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because,
when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye
received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the
word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that
believe.
14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God
which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like
things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and
is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good
works.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:
but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the
Holy Spirit.
You Get knowledge From His Word By The Holy Spirit
No minister can even help
in imparting it, except in and by the ministry of that Word. His own
thoughts are valueless.
Only so far as he enables us to understand that Word can he be of any
assistance to us. He may be mistaken by himself, and very easily be a
hindrance instead of a help.
God has revealed Himself in His written Word, the Scriptures of truth;
and in the Living Word, His Son, Jesus Christ.
And it is by the Communicated Word revealed in our hearts by the Holy
Spirit that we begin thus to get to know Him, whom to know is Life
Eternal.
This is the one great reason why the written Word is given to us. It is
not given merely as a book of general information, or of reference; but
it is given to make known God.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.
John 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue
in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts
knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because
he maketh intercession for the saints
according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the
called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did
predestinate to be conformed to the image of his
Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he
also called: and whom he called, them he also
justified: and whom he justified, them he also
glorified.
Why do we read His Word?
Do you read a portion that someone else has selected for us?
Do you read
that portion because we have promised someone we would do so?
I read the Bible to learn God's Word and how to please Him.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.
How many will still worship "the unknown gods of this world"; and serve themselves;
and do what is pleasing in their own eyes, studying only their own
tastes!
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers
shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh
such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit
and in truth.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old
things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
He knoweth what we should pray for. He knoweth what
we need. He maketh intercession for us and in us.
He teacheth us how to
pray.
Roman 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for
we know not what we should pray for
as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession
for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered.
-
Infirmities means our
weakness
-
This says we often don't know what to do or how
to pray, but have you ever wondered that you
took a certain direction or made a particular
decision?
-
Paul says here when the Spirit is in you and
you're in the Spirit, He guides you
and takes you where He would have you go.
Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him:
-
We see now that Paul's primary purpose was to
spread the gospel to the Gentiles as well as the
lost sheep of the house of Israel, that were
mixed in with the Gentiles.
-
It is a two-fold message.
-
That's why people (even deep scholars) say these
are the three hardest chapters of Paul's writing
to understand.
-
They do not realize it is written to two totally
diverse peoples.
We have His prayer set forth in these words: "that the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of
wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.
This then must be our greatest need: A true knowledge of God .
The Pentecost Day - Wind and Fire -- Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit can bring comfort, warm your heart = knowing He's with us = He gives us
peace
Or the wrath of God = to correct the evil things of this world
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them
cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of
them.
-
Hebrew 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
4 And they were all filled
with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as
the Spirit gave them utterance.
2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth,
which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto
fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with
the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2 Peter 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto
the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire
shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
-
Fire could be comforting, warming your heart or for the wickedness to
correct the evil things of this world
-
The Elements is to destroy the evil
things, the works of this earth age
that is evil.
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look
for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
-
The subject is doing God's work.
-
Anything you ask to do God's work = If it's His
Will
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
-
He said, If ye love me and keep my commandment
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive,
because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but
ye know him;
for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
-
The Spirit of truth; whom the world
cannot receive
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but
ye
see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
-
The world seeth me no more
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in
me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that
loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou
wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will
keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come
unto him, and make our abode with him.
-
If a man love me, he will keep my words
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word
which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's
which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with
you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
-
The Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit
-
He shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance
1 John 5:20 "The natural man receiveth not
the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto
him; neither can he get to know them."
Why not?
Because "they are spiritually discerned."
The natural man has no means of getting to know spiritual
things.
A spiritual understanding must first be
"given" to you from God by the Holy Spirit
Then he is able not only to discern, but to
love and delight in the revelation of spiritual things, and to
get to know Him, "the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom he
hath sent."
John 16:7 Nevertheless I
tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for
if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I
depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no
more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear
them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but
whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew
you things to come.
-
The Spirit of truth, is
come, he will guide you into all truth
-
He will shew you things to
come
Matthew 24:10
And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
-
How will the
gospel be published among all nations?
-
God's uses His elect and will speak through them.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem
Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the
multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man
heard them speak in his own language.
-
Every man
heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and
marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak
Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in
our own tongue, wherein we were born?
*
Observe that this wind was on the day of Pentecost accompanied
with a sound as of a rushing mighty wind; for albeit the Spirit of God
can work in silence.
I would be the last to depreciate meetings in which
there is nothing but holy silence, for I could wish that we had more
reverence for silence, and it is in stillness that the inner life is
nourished.
There is a sound as of a rushing, mighty wind, when
the word is sounded forth throughout whole nations by the publishing of
the gospel.
If the Lord had not given men ears or tongues
silent worship would have been not only appropriate but necessary; but
inasmuch as we have ears the Lord must have intended us to hear
something, and as we have tongues he must have meant us to speak.
Some of us would be glad to be quiet, but where the
gospel has free course, there is sure to be a measure of noise and stir.
The sound came on this occasion, no doubt, to call
the attention of the assembly to what was about to occur, to arouse
them, and to fill them with awe! The rush of wind and the mystery of
divine power.
What more fitting as an attendant upon divine
working than the deeply solemn rush of a mighty wind.
I should like you carefully to observe how the Holy
Spirit teaches us. When he came from the Father to his Son Jesus it was
as a dove.
The meaning of the symbol is that as breath, air, wind, is the very life
of man, so is the Spirit of God the life of the spiritual man.
By him are we quickened at the first; by him are we
kept alive afterwards; by him is the inner life nurtured, and increased,
and perfected, The breath of the nostrils of the man of God is the
Spirit of God.
This holy breath was not only intended to quicken them, but to
invigorate them. If the winds of earth are so refreshing what must a
wind from heaven be!
Now that we have the Holy Spirit from Christ as our
inner life and quickening he also comes upon us with the intent to use
us in blessing others, and this is the manner of his visitation.
If the Holy Spirit shall rest upon me or upon you,
or upon any of us, to qualify us for service, it shall be after this
fashion-not merely of life for ourselves, but of fiery energy in dealing
with others. Come on us even now, O rushing mighty wind and tongue of
fire, for the world hath great need.
There is neither health nor light for it but from
thee, O blessed Spirit; come, then, upon it through thy people.
