Hosea 3
The Book of Hosea
Hosea 3:1 Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of
her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward
the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of
wine.
-
This was a second marriage with its own special
signification.
-
Her friend = Hosea himself
-
Yet = Go again = (she has become) an adulteress.
-
Referring to Israel's present condition in this
Dispensation.
-
Adulteress: An idolatress; and denotes only a
woman of the northern tribes.
2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer
of barley, and an half homer of barley:
-
Fifteen pieces of silver = fifteen shekels = The price of the
redemption of a slave.
3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not
play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also
be for thee.
4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and
without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and
without an ephod, and without teraphim:
-
Most of Israel, the 12 tribes of today don't
know who they are
-
Verse 4-5 The present and future states
-
Time "many days"
-
Shall abide
-
Without a king = not knowing who they are = having rejected Messiah
-
John 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him,
away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto
them, Shall I crucify your King? The
chief priest answered, We have no king
but Caesar.
-
Teraphim = idols of any kind
5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their
God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in
the latter days.
-
In the LATTER days
-
Afterward = This mark of time has not yet been
reached.
-
It corresponds with the "many days" of verse 4
-
Return = Return to God
-
Jeremiah 50:4 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of
Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and
weeping: they shall go, and seek the Lord their God.
-
5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying,
Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that
shall not be forgotten.
