Jeremiah 50
The Book of
Jeremiah
Jeremiah 50:1 The word that the Lord spake against Babylon and against
the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
-
Jeremiah means whom God raises up, or launches
forth.
-
Zechariah 7:12 Yea, they made their hearts as an
adamant stone, lest they should hear the law,
and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent
in his spirit by the former prophets:
therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of
hosts.
-
Land of the Chaldeans is Iraq in the middle east
meaning Babylon
2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded,
Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are
broken in pieces.
- Set up = lift up
- Babylon is taken - Revelation 14:8 and Revelation 18:6,10,21
showing that this prophecy is still future
- Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is
fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of
the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
- Bel Contracted from the Aramaic form of Ba'al, the national
god of Babylon.
- Isaiah 46:1-2 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols
were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were
heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast.
2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the
burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.
- Merodach another name for Bel (Baal) Babylon's god.
- Image = manufactured gods
- Leviticus 26:30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut
down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of
your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries
unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet
odours.
32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies
which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall
make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove,
they shall depart, both man and beast.

North referring to Medo-Persia, which was on the
north-west of Chaldea.
-
But a future enemy is foretold.
-
None shall dwell therein, showing that the
fulfillment is still future.
4 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of
Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and
weeping: they shall go, and seek the Lord their God.
-
In those days, this prophecy awaits its
fulfillment.

For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take
another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and

Ephraim was the largest tribe = Ephraim represents the house of Israel
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become
one in thine hand.
Join them one to another into one stick; and

This happens at the beginning of the millennium
The conquest by Medo-Persia did not exhaust it.
Together, another proof that this prophecy
refers to the future. Never yet fulfilled.
Going and weeping as they travel, so shall they
journey on.
Weeping for their sins.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying,
Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
Ezekiel
37:19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick
of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his
fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and
make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
Make them one stick, and they shall be one in
mine hand
This is when Christ returns and gather all the
tribes together = The beginning of the Lord's
Day
I will take the stick of Joseph,
which is in the hand of Ephraim,
and the tribes of Israel
The stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and
they
shall be one in mine hand.
Many people want to put them all together, you
just read there are two houses.
The house of
Israel and the tribe of Judah. Judah knows who
they are, they are the Jews.
1 Kings 11:33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the
Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and
have
not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes,
and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his
father.
God told Solomon If you want My blessing, Do
Things My Ways
If not, don't come crying to Me
Look at what people do today on the most Holy Day of
the year is Passover. What do most do? They hunt eggs in The House
of God.
Joel 2:12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me
with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and
with mourning:
Zechariah 12:10 And I will
pour upon the house of David, and upon the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace
and of supplications: and they shall look upon
me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn
for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and
shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is
in bitterness for his firstborn.
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning
in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in
the valley of Megiddon.
12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart;
the family of the house of David apart, and
their wives apart; the family of the house of
Nathan apart, and their wives apart;
13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and
their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart,
and their wives apart;
14 All the families that remain, every family
apart, and their wives apart.
5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying,
Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that
shall not be forgotten.

Jeremiah was therefore not in Babylon, but in
Egypt.
-
Perpetual, another evidence that this prophecy
refers to the future covenant.
-
Jeremiah 3:18 In those days the house of Judah
shall walk with the house of Israel, and they
shall come together out of the land of the north
to the land that I have given for an inheritance
unto your fathers.
6 My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go
astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from
mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.

Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus
sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of
the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at
hand.

Shepherds are rulers and pastors
-
They have turned them away on the mountain = on
the mountains they seduced them, by the
idolatrous worship practiced there.

Christ is our
Resting Place, Rest in the
Lord only.
7 All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We
offend not, because they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of
justice, even the Lord, the hope of their fathers.

Justice = righteousness
-
In chapter 31:23 this is applied to Jerusalem

Habitation = pasturage
-
Here God Himself is the pasturage in which His
people find rest.
-
The hope of their father, by which "hope" is put
for the God in Whom their father hoped.

1 Timothy 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ
by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord
Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
2 Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace,
mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus
Christ our Lord.
8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of
the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

Go forth "they will forth" or "go ye forth"

Revelation 18:4
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her,
my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye
receive not of her plagues.

Jeremiah 51:4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that
are thrust through in her streets.
5 For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD
of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of
Israel.
6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be
not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's
vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.
9 For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly
of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves
in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall
be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

Isaiah 13:1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah
the son of Amoz did see.
2 Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain,
exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that
they may go into the gates of the nobles.

3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have
also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even
them that rejoice in my highness.
4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains,
like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of
the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the
Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.

5 They come from a far country, from the end of
heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of his
indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6 Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand;
it shall come as a destruction from the
Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every
man's heart shall melt:
-
Isaiah 13:11 And I will punish the world for
their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity;
and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to
cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the
terrible.

Isaiah 13:17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes
against them, which shall not regard silver; and
as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to
pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit
of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the
beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as
when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it
be dwelt in from generation to generation:
neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there;
neither shall the shepherds make their fold
there.
10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied,
saith the Lord.

Jeremiah 49:9 If grape gatherers come to thee,
would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if
thieves by night, they will destroy till they
have enough.
10 But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered
his secret places, and he shall not be able to
hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his
brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine
heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as
bulls;

Destroyers = spoilers, or plunderers
12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a
dry land, and a desert.

The hindermost = the last
-
Verse 17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions
have driven him away: first the king of Assyria
hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king
of Babylon hath broken his bones.
13 Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but it
shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be
astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.
14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend
the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the
Lord.
15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her
foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the
vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do
unto her.

Given her hand for what is done by it, here the
token of submission.

Ezekiel 17:18 Seeing he despised the oath by
breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given
his hand, and hath done all these things, he
shall not escape.
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As I live,
surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my
covenant that he hath broken, even it will I
recompense upon his own head.

Revelation 18:6
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double
according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to
her double.

7 How much she hath glorified herself, and
lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she
saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall
see no sorrow.
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in
the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn
every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

The sower = Jeremiah 51:23 I will also
break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his
flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the
husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee
will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

They shall turn every one = Jeremiah 46:16 He
made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another:
and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our
own people, and to the land of our nativity,
from the oppressing sword.

Jeremiah 50:4 In those days, and in that
time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel
shall come, they and the children of Judah
together, going and weeping: they shall go, and
seek the LORD their God.
18 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I
will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the
king of Assyria.

Jeremiah 7:3 Thus saith the LORD of
hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and
your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in
this place.
19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on
Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim
and Gilead.
20 In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of
Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of
Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I
reserve.
21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the
inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the
Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is
Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and
thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast
striven against the Lord.
25 The Lord hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons
of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord God of hosts in the
land of the Chaldeans.
26 Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast
her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto
them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.
28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to
declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his
temple.
29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow,
camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her
according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her:
for she hath been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of
Israel.
30 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of
war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord.
31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of
hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.
32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him
up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall
devour all
round about him.
33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The children of Israel and the children
of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held
them fast; they refused to let them go.
34 Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that
he may give rest to the land, and
disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the
inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her
mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.
37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all
the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become
as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.
38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is
the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.
39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the
islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it
shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from
generation to generation.
40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof,
saith the Lord; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of
man dwell therein.
41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and
many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and
they shall ride
upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against
thee, O daughter of Babylon.
43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands
waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in
travail.
44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan
unto
the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away
from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who
is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd
that will stand before me?
45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against
Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the
Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he
shall make their habitation desolate with them.
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry
is heard among the nations.
• Exactly 2520 years from the exile
of Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
•
The first tribe to be
conquered by the Assyrians was Manasseh,
in 745 B.C. Exactly 2520 years later America became a nation on July 4, 1776.
