Jonah
2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
-
Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the
sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so
shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the
earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and
shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and,
behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this
generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts
of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than
Solomon is here.
-
Jonah knew the the Assyrians were going to take
the 10 tribes into captivity, this is why Jonah
was willing to sacrifice himself for his
people.
-
Christ was our sacrifice for all people
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he
heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
-
Hell = grave = Jonah died
3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and
the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over
me.
4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward
thy holy temple.
-
Jonah knew in his heart and mind, there was life
after this life
5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me
round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars
was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption,
O LORD my God.
-
Here we see Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly
-
Corruption = pit or grave, the place of
corruption
-
Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the
sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so
shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the
earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and
shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and,
behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this
generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts
of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than
Solomon is here.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer
came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
-
Fainted = Jonah became unconscious = cover or
involve in darkness
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
-
Vanities = they observe their lying gods = fish
god
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will
pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
-
Salvation is of the LORD
-
Example to the Assyrians = Just as Christ
sacrifice for all people
-
God loves all His people
-
The question is do you love Him?
-
This is why we are here in this earth age. God
needs to know if you Love Him
10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the
dry land.
-
The LORD spake unto the fish = it vomited out
Jonah
-
Nineveh people worshipped a fish god
-
To the Assyrians = this had to be from their god
-
When they saw Jonah comes from the fish = the
Assyrians knew this was a sign from their god
-
God loves all His people
