Leviticus 1
TITLE, Moses.
Leviticus = because thought to be pertaining to the Levites.
Levities = Hebrew word = vayyikra, being
the first word = "And He called". Leviticus, therefore, is the
Book relating to worship: for only those whom God thus calls
does He seek to worship Him.
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and
in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him
in spirit and in truth.
Psalms 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou
choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell
in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy
house, even of thy holy temple.
"Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest,
and causest to approach unto Thee, that he may dwell in Thy
courts."
All its types relate to worship, as those
of Exodus relate to Redemption.
The Holy Spirit is not once named, though
referred to in all the other books of the Pentateuch, because
all here relates to Christ; and it is the Spirit's work to
glorify Christ.
John 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he
shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I,
that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
The whole of Leviticus, and Numbers 1:1-10
and Numbers10, come between the first day of the first month and
the twentieth day of the second month, on the hypothesis that
Israel would forth with advance and enter the land.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy
transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy
sins.
26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together:
declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which
was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
-
Always asking God to forgive our sin, asking in
Jesus Name
-
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
-
I am the way, the truth,
and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me.
-
When you pray, Pray to the Father, and ask your needs in
Jesus name
-
Your sins are forgiven =
nailing your sins to His cross
Leviticus 1:1 And the Lord called unto Moses, and spake
unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,
-
THE OFFERINGS AND THEIR LAWS
-
Leviticus = The Hebrew name = vayyikra,
being the first word = "And He called".
-
AND = This connects Leviticus very closely
with Exodus, as Exodus is linked with Genesis.
-
The LORD = Hebrew = God
-
Whose glory filled the tabernacle, Ex 40:35.
-
No other book contains so many words of God:
-
"God spake", thirty-six times "I am
God"
-
Twenty-one times = "I am God your God"
-
Twenty-one times = "I (God) am"
-
Three times; "I"
-
God, do = Twice
-
Called = The last letter of this word (in
Hebrew) is minuscular = smaller than the others.
-
This calling is in contrast with the
thunders from Sinai.
-
Spake = This formula denotes another
communication made at a different time, and gives a further
development of the laws of the trespass offering.
-
Note that in this book God "spake" at
thirty-five "sundry times", and in ten "divers manners"
-
Out of the tabernacle of the congregation =
Hebrew out of the tent of assembly
-
There are four such calls:
-
(1) from the burning bush = Ex 3:4 And when
the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him
out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he
said, Here am I.
-
(2) and = Ex 19:3 And Moses went up unto
God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying,
Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children
of Israel);
-
(3) from Sinai = Ex 19:20 And the Lord came
down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the Lord
called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. =
and here.
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If
any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord, ye shall bring your offering of
the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.
-
Offering = Hebrew word korban =
admittance, entrance, or access offering.
-
All the offerings were what God had
first given to man; only such can be accepted by Him.
3 If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him
offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the
door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord.
-
God begins with the burnt offering and ends
with the sin offering: we, in our approach, begin with the sin
offering and end with the burnt offering.
-
Male = A female permitted in some other
offerings, but not here, because of the type.
-
Christ not the sin bearer here, as in Lev 4.
-
Without blemish = Hebrew. tamim = said of
all sacrifices, and the same of Noah.
-
Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah:
Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah
walked with God.
-
His own voluntary will = Not the same as a
freewill offering.
-
This not a freewill offering = Hebrew here =
"to be accepted for him", in his stead.
-
There was a double transfer = the
unworthiness of the offerer was transferred to the victim; and
the acceptableness of the offering was transferred to the
offerer.
-
This is confined to the burnt offerings and
peace offerings; never with the sin offerings.
4 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt
offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
-
Put = Hebrew word = lean, place,
or press
-
This was all that the sinner could do.
-
It was for God to accept.
-
Make atonement = Hebrew word = kaphar,
to cover the sinner and his sin, so that neither is seen.
-
No such thing as progress in
justification.
-
Atonement = to cover, gives the
essential meaning
-
Genesis 6:14, where it is rendered "pitch (it)".
-
Hence used of the mercy-seat = Exodus 25:17
= propitiatory cover (Hebrew. kapporeth = cover).
-
Cover put for the propitiation made through
the blood sprinkled thereon.
-
Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his
righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through
the forbearance of God;
-
Hence the meaning, God's "propitiatory gift"
-
The English "at-one-ment" = has no
connection whatever with the Hebrew word kaphar.
5 And he shall kill the bullock before the Lord: and the
priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about
upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
-
He = The sacrificer himself killed: the
priest received the blood.
-
The priests, Aaron's sons = Hebrew word =
the sons of Aaron, the priests.
-
Sprinkle = dash = Hebrew word = throw or
jerk.
-
Door = entrance
6 And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his
pieces.
-
Flay = have it flayed
-
Skin == not offered with burnt offering,
only with the sin offering.
-
Cut it . . . pieces = To show that all was
without blemish
7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the
altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire:
8 And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in
order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:
9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and
the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering
made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord.
10 And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats,
for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish.
11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the Lord: and
the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.
12 And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the
priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the
altar:
13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall
bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering
made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord.
14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the Lord be of fowls, then he
shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.
15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and
burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of
the altar:
-
The priest = To make up for the humble
offering, the priest did this instead of the offerer.
16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the
altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:
17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it
asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon
the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour
unto the Lord.
• Exactly 2520 years from the exile of
Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
•
The first tribe to be conquered by the
Assyrians was Manasseh, in 745 B.C. Exactly
2520 years later America became a nation on
July 4, 1776.
• (Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel
that if they persisted in continually breaking His Laws, not only would
curses come upon them.
He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would
be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them
among the heathens (like lost sheep)
