Luke 17

Luke 17

Luke 17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
  • Jesus is talking to His disciples, saying things are not going to be as the Garden of Eden.
  • Offences = stumbling-block
  • Look what happen to Christ.
  • Then said he, contain matter which had been spoken by the Lord on a former occasion and repeated here with a variation of certain words.
  • Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
  • Mark 9:42  And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
  • Matthew 18:20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
  • This is why man doesn't judge, God does the judging
  • God keep score, He knows what's going on.
  • Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
  • Offend = be a cause of stumbling = false teaching
3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
  • Take heed = warning
  • Trespass = sin against you
  • If your brother sin against you = rebuke him
  • It's better you forgive him, if not, God will do it.
  • If he repents, forgive him
4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
  • 7 x 70 = 490
  • You forgive him, 490 times a day
5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
  • This is the subject. How to increase faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
  • Parable of mustard seed
  • The subject is faith of a mustard seed
  • Another place mountain = nation
  • Sycamine tree = mulberry
  • Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
  • You go on in there and I'll be in there to cool you down and I will serve you.
  • It's the opposite; it's supposed to be the other way.
8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
  • This is common, this is the way it should be.
  • If you have a job, do what you are supposed to do.
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
  • They were doing what they were supposed to do.
  • How can this increase your faith?
  • Roman 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
  • By doing what you are supposed to do, teach God's word, and ask God for the wisdom to help you and others.
  • Faith comes by obeying the word of God.
  • Doing what you are supposed to be doing, without putting a stumbling block in their way.
11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
  • What have they done?
  • Mercy = faith in Jesus
  • They had the faith to know Jesus could heal them
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
  • Lev 14:3 And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper;
4 Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:
  • After Christ died for our sins, we ask God to heal us, and ask in Jesus name.
  • As they went, they were cleansed
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
  • These were Samaritan
  • Only one gave thanks to Jesus
17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
  • Stranger = another race
  • Only this man came back to thank Jesus
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
  • His faith healed him
20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
  • Observation = Hostile watching, in a bad sense
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
  • Jesus was in the sight of him
  • Within = in the midst of, or among; already there in person of the King (whose present marks a kingdom).
  • Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
  • John 1:John 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
  • You = you yourselves
  • His bitter enemies. Therefore not in their hearts; but the very opposite
22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
  • One of the days = Such as they were then seeing = wanting to have another opportunity to see Him
23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
  • Same as "lo" in verse 21; Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
  • Matthew 24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
  • There's two tribulations, you need to know which trumpet the Lord is returning, Jesus return at the 7th trumpet.
  • Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
  • How long is a day?
  • 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
  • 1000 years =  Millennium
  • Revelation 20 tells us about the Millennium
  • Ezekiel the last 8 chapters, tells more about the millennium
  • 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
  • This generation = this (present) generation
  • Evil and adulterous and faithless and perverse generation
  • All this because it was the particular generation that rejected the messiah.
  • Matthew 11:16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows.
  • Rejected = This was the subject of the third period of the Lord's ministry.
26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
  • Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
  • Giants means (Nephilim) # 5307 which means fallen ones = fallen angels = they were not born of women
  • Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
  • Those days = the days of Noah
  • Also well as before it - there was another irruption, the result being like those of old.
  • Why was the flood brought upon the world of the godly?
  • The fallen angels,  they bare sons, mighty men, Great in wickedness in all the earth.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
  • Only Noah and his family didn't mix with the fallen angels
  • They drank = they were drinking
  • Emphasize the crisis of the flood
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
  • Planted = false doctrine
  • They walked in their ways not God's ways.
  • Lying and saying.. what was right was wrong and what was wrong was right.
  • Just watch the media = it will make you sick when they say, God would do this, God wants all to be happy.
  • Revelation 8 - 4th trumpet = Christians people start to go the ways of the world, saying it's okay.
  • 4th trumpet = 1/3 of the Christians are spiritual dead to GOD'S WORD. (Revelation 7)
  • 1/3 of them was darkened - means = no truth = because of the false pastors = No truth; no light.
  • 3rd seal - The Famine of God's Word, not being taught, False set of Balances, inflation, and hardship.
  • They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.
  • What did Jesus tell us to do? Teach My word, Not man word.
  • Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
  • God told us in the book of Joel; that's the way it would be in the last days.
  • Amos 4:11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
  • Isaiah 13:19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
  • Ezekiel 16:46 And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.
47 Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
48 As I live, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
51 Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
52 Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
53 When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them:
54 That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
55 When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
56 For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
  • Genesis 19:24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord:
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
  • This is the way it's going to be again, 7th vial poured out = God's cup of wrath
31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
  • He is saying the end is here, you don't need anything
32 Remember Lot's wife.
  • Genesis 19:24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
  • Lot's wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
  • First one taken was taken by Satan, by deception and confusion
  • What is the subject?
  • Verse 23  And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
  • Satan is cast out at the 5th trumpet and here saying he God in the 6th trumpet
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
  • Again verse 23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Where so ever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
  • Body = carcass
  • Eagles = vultures
  • Matthew 24:28 For where so ever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
  • 6th seal - Question, who shall be able to stand against Satan?
  • Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
  • First tribulation = Satan's tribulation
  • Second tribulation = 7th trump = Christ returns = 7th vial = God cup of wrath poured out on those that worshipped Satan
