The Princes of This World
1 Corinthians 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a
mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the
world unto our glory:
-
Mystery = Hidden = Same as in Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these
things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes:
even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
-
Ordained = pre-ordained
-
Roman 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel,
and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the
mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
-
God has the power to establish you according to
what I've told you according to the teachings of
Christ, God plan that has been
secret from the beginning.
-
World = ages as in verse 6
8 Which none of the princes of
this world knew: for had they known it,
they
would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
John 12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me,
but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this
world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be
able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to
heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son,
that thy Son also may glorify thee:
-
Jesus always called God, Father
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should
give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
-
God has given Christ power over all flesh
-
As thou hast given him
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only
true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work
which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with
the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me
out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and
they have kept thy word.
-
The men which thou gavest me out of the world = they have kept thy word =
God elect
-
These were chosen before the foundation of this
earth age
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given
me are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and
they have received them, and have known surely that I came out
from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for
them which
thou hast given me; for they are thine.
-
I pray for them: but for them which thou hast
given me; for they are thine.
-
I pray not for the world
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am
glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but
these are in the
world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own
name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we
are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name:
those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost,
but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
-
None of them is lost, but the son of perdition =
Satan = death
-
The son of perdition =
Revelation 17:8 The
beast (Satan)that thou sawest was (In the first
earth age), and is not (Satan's in heaven now) ;
and shall ascend out of the
bottomless pit,
and go into perdition: and they
that dwell on the earth shall wonder,
whose names were not written in the book of life
from the foundation of the world, when they
behold the beast (Satan) that was, and is not,
and yet is.
-
Revelation 12:9
And the great dragon was
cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil,
and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he
was cast out into the earth, and his angels were
cast out with him.
-
Revelation 9:1
And the fifth angel
sounded, and I saw a star (Satan) fall from
heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the
key of the bottomless pit.
2
And he opened the
bottomless pit;
and there
arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a
great furnace; and the sun and the air were
darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
-
Revelation 20:2
And he laid hold on the
dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil,
and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3
And cast him into the
bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal
upon him, that he should deceive the nations no
more, till the thousand years should be
fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a
little season.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the
world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the
world hath hated them,
because they are not of the world, even as I
am not of the
world.
-
God elect are not of this world, as I am not of
this world
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world,
but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
-
Jesus pray for My Elect, that Thou should keep
them from evil
-
You can plant a seed, teach God's word = It's up
to God it they can hear the word
16 They are not of the world, even
as I am not of the world.
-
God's elect are not of the world, even as I am not of
the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent
them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might
be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall
believe on me through their word;
2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of
the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine unto them.
John
12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but
for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast
out.
-
In John 12:31 Christ refers to Satan as the
prince of the world
- Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia with stood me one and twenty
days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I
remained there with the kings of Persia.
-
Judgment = Greek word = NT:2920 krisis =
decision for or against by extension, a
tribunal; by implication, justice (especially,
divine law): accustion, condemnation, damnation,
judgment.
-
The crisis reached when the world pronounced
judgment against Christ and His claims.
-
Prince = ruler = Greek word = NT:758 = archon =
of NT:757 = prince, ruler.
-
Applies to Satan as prince of this world
-
Now = five days before Passover
-
Three times here:
-
John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with
you: for the prince of this world cometh, and
hath nothing in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the
Father; and as the Father gave me commandment,
even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
-
John 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of
this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but
ye cannot bear them now.
-
As prince of the demons in Matthew 12:24 But
when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This
fellow doth not cast out devils, but by
Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
-
Mark 3:22 And the scribes which came down from
Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the
prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
-
And as prince of the power of the air in
Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked
according to the course of this world, according
to the prince of the power of the air, the
spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
-
The same word used in Revelation 1:5 of the
Lord.
-
Revelation 1:5 And from
Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and
the first begotten of the dead, and the prince
of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved
us, and washed us from our sins in his own
blood,
-
The prince of this world was a well-know
Rabbinical term (prince of the age) for Satan,
the angel, as they say, "into whose hands the
whole world is delivered".
John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of
this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
-
Who is the prince of this world?
-
The prince of this world cometh, he hath
nothing in me,
It's Satan
-
1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of
this world knew: for had they known it,
they
would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
-
John 12:31Now is the judgment of this world: now
shall the prince of this world be cast out.
-
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens,
and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters
of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is
come down unto you, having great wrath, because
he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto
the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought
forth the man child
-
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of
this world: if my kingdom were of this world,
then would my servants fight, that I should not
be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom
not from hence.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as
the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go
hence.
John 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye
are from beneath; I am from above:
ye are of this world;
John 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of
this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but
ye cannot bear them now.
-
As prince of the demons in Matthew 12:24
Matthew 12:24 But
when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This
fellow doth not cast out devils, but by
Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Mark 3:22 And the scribes which came down from
Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the
prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
-
And as prince of the power of the air in
Ephesians 2:2
Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked
according to the course of this world, according
to the prince of the power of the air, the
spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
-
The same word used in Revelation 1:5 of the
Lord.
Daniel 12:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty
days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I
remained there with the kings of Persia.
-
A mere human prince could not have withstood
this mighty one for one moment, much less 21
days.
-
John 12:31 Christ refers to Satan as the prince
of the world.
-
To better establish the point, Michael is the
one used to man handle Satan.
-
Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven:
Michael and his angels fought
against the dragon; and the dragon (Satan)
fought and his angels,
-
John 12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice
came not because of me, but
for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall
the prince of this world be cast out.
-
Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old
serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he
was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
1
Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of
speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him
crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in
the power of
God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of
this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which
God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they
known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit
searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the
spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no
man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but
the spirit which is of God; that we might know the
things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which
man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Spirit
teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no
hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his
might.
-
You use that power which He has bestowed upon
you.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil.
-
You must put on the whole armour of the truth,
before you can stand against the deceit of the
false christ in the near future.
-
This is addressing you directly.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
-
Paul is talking about the rulers of darkness,
the time of darkness, spoken of by Christ when
He was taken by the scribes and Pharisees to be
crucified.
- Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye
stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and
the power of darkness.
- He is stating that we are not wrestling against flesh and
blood on the earth but against the deception brought on by the
prince of darkness, who is the false christ, or Satan.
- Now that the enemy is identified, you can better understand
the armor as described in the following verse.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
-
It will take all for you to stand in the last
day.
-
Understand what we're up against, and Paul lists
seven things which you must have.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness;
2 Peter 2:10 But chiefly
them that walk after the flesh
in the lust of
uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self willed,
they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
-
2 Peter 2:20 For if after
they have escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein,
and overcome, the latter end is worse
with them than the beginning.
-
Government = dominion
-
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power,
and might, and dominion, and every name that is
named, not only in this world, but also
in that which is to come:
-
Jude 8-10 Likewise also these filthy
dreamers defile the flesh, despise
dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending
with the devil he disputed about the
body of Moses, durst not bring against
him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord
rebuke thee.
10 But these speak evil of those things
which they know not: but what they know
naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they
corrupt themselves.
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in
the way of Cain, and ran greedily after
the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in
the gainsaying of Core.
-
Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless,
as the steward of God; not self willed, not soon
angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given
to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good
men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been
taught, that he may be able by sound
doctrine both to exhort and to convince the
gainsayers.
10 For there are many unruly and vain
talkers and deceivers, specially they
of the circumcision:
11 Whose mouths must be stopped,
who subvert whole houses, teaching
things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's
sake.
-
Presumptuous = Daring = Only here. self willed.
-
Are not afraid = do not tremble.
-
Speak evil of = blaspheme, as 2 Peter 2:2.
-
Verse 2 And many shall follow their pernicious
ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall
be evil spoken of.
-
Dignities = Literally glories = used as a title.
-
Jude 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers
defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak
evil of dignities.
