Proverbs 19:1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
  • This chapter is about personal character, humility
  • The poor = A needy one
  • He that is the rich that is perverse lips, for what is spoken by them.
  • Proverbs 28:6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
  • Fretteth against = he's angry with the Lord
4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
  • The poor = a weak one
  • You don't see a lot of people helping the needy
  • Wealth = people always around = because they have got their hands out, wanting something
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
  • Unpunished = acquitted, or held innocent
  • A false witness = same punishment as murderers
  • Deuteronomy 19:16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
    17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
    18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
    19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
  • If false witness stand up and lies he shall be put to death, same as murderers

6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
  • Him that giveth gifts = a man
  • Of gifts = a generous man
  • Friends are not always going to be there for you
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
  • Go far = withdraw
  • Pursueth or seeketh words of friendship, but there are none.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
  • Wisdom in Hebrew heart, for the understanding
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
  • A false witness, the repetition of verse 8 is needed and punished is defined.
10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
  • Delight = luxury
  • Some people have very little, but they want you to think they have everything
11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
  • Genesis 40:15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
  • Dew = night mist = that gives grow
  • If you're friends with the king and you have done something bad to king, it's not good
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
  • Is the calamity = is a great trouble to
  • Hebrew word trouble = for a great trouble
  • Put for action of the foolish son which brings it on
14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
  • A prudent wife uses common sense, wisdom
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
  • Chasten = correct or discipline
  • Slothfulness= Lazy person won't work
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
  • Those that don't keep the ways of God, will die
  • Keepeth = guardeth
  • Die = die pematurely
  • It's up to you, live or die
17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
  • Poor = The handicapped - Disabled People
  • He that helps the handicapped person, lendeth unto the Lord
18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
  • Chasten = correct or discipline
  • This is not a caution against excess of severity, but against a cruel kindness which ends in death, by withholding seasonable correction.
  • Correct your children, teach him what's right and wrong
  • Teach love not hate
  • Teach your children to help each other
  • Teach your children God's commadments
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
  • A man of great wrath = one in a rage
  • Suffer punishment = incurreth a penalty
  • In Hebrew Onesh = a fine, or indemnity
  • Thou deliver = thou rescue him, by paying the penalty if thou do it continually
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
  • Seek God for counsel and you will receive wisdom from His word
  • Latter end =  In Wisdom to know what's going to happen in the end times
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
  • Many devices = many schemes
  • Man schemes never last
22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
  • A person that fells to keep his word
  • A man of the better sort, who is a liar
23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
  • If you practice evil, you're not going to sleep good at night
24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
  • Slothful = lazy person
  • Bosom = bowl or wide dish
  • He saying, he so lazy he can't even rise his hand to feed himself
  • He talking about a lazy person, he not talking about a handicapped or disabled People
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
  • Scorner = scoffer
  • Will beware = will be made wise
  • Reprove = set right
  • He will understand knowledge = will cause teaching to be discerned
26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
  • Wasteth = preyeth upon evil
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
  • Don't listen to words, that causes trouble
28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
  • They love to cause trouble, they're going to be judged
  • An ungodly witness = false witness
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
  • People that cause trouble, they're going to be punished
  • When you hear someone wanting to cause trouble, stay away from them
