Zephaniah 3
Zephaniah 3:1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing
city!
-
Woe = Zephaniah 2:4 For Gaza shall be forsaken,
and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out
Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be
rooted up.
-
Her = Jerusalem
-
Filthy = rebellious
-
Polluted = Hebrew word ga'al, (1) to redeem: (2)
to make or deem common or unclean.
-
A Homonym = with two meanings
-
Not the same word as in Zeph 3:4 Her prophets
are light and treacherous persons: her priests
have polluted the sanctuary, they have done
violence to the law.
2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not
in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.
-
She received not = read "neither hath she
accepted".
-
Correction = discipline.
-
Trusted = confided
-
The LORD = God
-
She drew not near = "neither unto her God hath
she drawn near".
3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening
wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
-
Gnaw not = or, reserve not
-
Princes = those in charge
-
Her judges are evening wolves = they take
everything they can get their hands on
4 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have
polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
-
What law?
God's Law
-
When you start going by man laws, you got the
laws of half baked judge taking God's Name out
of Schools, court houses, etc.. Good for nothing
people.
-
Light = reckless
-
Done violence = Jeremiah 2:8 The priests said
not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the
law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed
against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal,
and walked after things that do not profit.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the
Lord, and with your children's children will I
plead.
-
Ezekiel 22:26 Her priests have violated my law,
and have profaned mine holy things: they have
put no difference between the holy and profane,
neither have they shewed difference between the
unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes
from my Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
-
Treacherous persons = men (Hebrew word enosh) =
of treacheries; placing the emphasis on the
treachery.
-
Polluted = profaned
5 The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every
morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the
unjust knoweth no shame.
-
Every morning = morning by morning
-
Unjust = perverse
6 I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their
streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that
there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.
-
There not = one man that knows the truth = God's
Word
-
The trumpet and alarm = an alarming trumpet = a
trumpet, yea, a trumpet "call" "to arms"!
7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so
their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but
they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
-
This corrupted = is type of the time of the
fallen angels
-
Genesis 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and,
behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had
corrupted his way upon the earth.
8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise
up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I
may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all
my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my
jealousy.
-
Therefore = The Massorah (Ap. 30 and Ap. 93)
calls attention to the fact that this verse
contains all the letters of the Hebrew alphabet,
including the five final letters.
-
This implies that the verse takes in the whole
purpose of God's concerning to Israel.
-
Gather the nations = one worldism (Rev 13)
-
7th trump = Wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I
rise up
-
Revelation 11:14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the
third woe cometh quickly.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there
were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of
this world
are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he
shall reign for ever and ever.
-
The seventh angel that sounds the
seventh trumpet in this verse, continues to sound through Revelation
20:15
-
We have covered a great deal of
time in this 11th chapter, even the end.
-
Christ has already returned and His
kingdom has come in forever and ever
-
Because there is still one more woe
to come, He is assuring us here that He shall reign supreme.
-
7th trump = Wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I
rise up
-
Upon: or, for
-
Saith the Lord = "is" God's oracle.
-
To the prey = read "as a witness", reading 'ed
instead of 'ad. Compare Mic 2:2 And they covet
fields, and take them by violence; and houses,
and take them away: so they oppress a man and
his house, even a man and his heritage.
-
Gather = gather in. Not the same word as in
Zephaniah 2:1 Gather yourselves together, yea,
gather together, O nation not desired;
2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day
pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of
the Lord come upon you, before the day of the
Lord's anger come upon you.
-
Assemble = gather out.
-
For all the earth
-
Zephaniah 1:18 Neither their silver nor their
gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of
the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be
devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he
shall make even a speedy riddance of all them
that dwell in the land.
-
The fire of My jealousy = Deut 4:24 For the Lord
thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
25 When thou shalt beget children, and
children's children, and ye shall have remained
long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves,
and make a graven image, or the likeness of any
thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the
Lord thy God, to provoke him to anger:
-
Hebrew 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
-
Revelation 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into
the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from
the throne, saying, It is done.
-
7th vial poured out - this is also the three
woe to earth - The Cup of Wrath
-
This cup of wrath is poured out on those that
followed Satan.
-
Jeremiah 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he
is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth
shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his
indignation.
The mark in the hand means you're helping Satan with
his plan
Revelation 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and
lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men
were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts,
and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the
fierceness of his wrath.
Babylon, which means confusing, Will be divided
into three parts
God remembered what Babylon had done to the
saints.
Which were under the altar. Isaiah 51:22-23
Tells us that God will take the ''cup of trembling'' out of our
hands and put it into hands of them that afflict us.
Isaiah 51:22 Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and
thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken
out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of
my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again: 23 But I will put it
into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy
soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as
the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
Revelation 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains
were not found.
Mountains, biblically speaking, symbolize
governments.
At this time, governments will mean nothing.
Christ will have returned and set up the
millennial temple.
Revelation 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of
heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God
because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding
great.
A talent weighs anywhere between 100 pounds and
180 pounds, depending upon the translation that you use.
Ezekiel 38 and Ezekiel 39 in conjunction with
this Revelation 16 would prove beneficial at this time.
God uses His own created elements to defeat
Satan's army.
Israel will not have to lift a hand. Thanks to
our Father.
Psalms 60:12 Through God we shall do valiantly:
for He it is that shall tread down our enemies. At the 7th trump = Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall
gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost
part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all
call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.
-
I turn to the people a pure language = time is
the millennium
-
Then = after all that is implied in Zeph 3:8.

I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean
lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord
of hosts.
-
Pure = separated from that which is impure or
unclean.
-
Hebrew word barar, as in Ezek 20:38 And I
will purge out from among you the rebels, and
them that transgress against me: I will bring
them forth out of the country where they
sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land
of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
-
Daniel 11:35 And some of them of
understanding shall fall, to try them,
and to purge, and to make them white,
even to the time of the end: because it is yet
for a time appointed.
-
Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made
white, and tried; but the wicked shall do
wickedly: and none of the wicked shall
understand; but the wise shall understand.
-
The reference is, to being made fit for the
worship of God, as the next clause shows.
-
That they may = read "and may".
-
Consent Hebrew shoulder = for the service
rendered by = as alleged.
10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter

and a thick cloud of incense went up.
-
The daughter of My dispersed = My dispersed

11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein
thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the
midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be

and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.

in Zephaniah 3:2.She obeyed not the voice; she
received not correction; she trusted not in the
Lord; she drew not near to her God.

all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he
will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy
over thee with singing.
-
Is mighty = He will save
-
The Hebrew accents place the chief pause or
emphasis on "save", implying not that He will
save at some future time, but that He is an
ever-present Saviour.
-
God thy Elohim is in the midst of thee, mighty
to save "at all times"
-
He will rejoice = Reference to Deut 30:9 And the
Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every
work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body,
