1 John 2

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
  • John 13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
    34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
    35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
  • That ye - sin
  • Note carefully the telic force of the (Greek word hina) here, "to the end that ye may not (commit) sin (Habitually)
  • That Greek word hina = sin not = may not sin
  • If sin = should any man sin, commit an act of sin
  • John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
  • I will pray to the Father
  • he shall give you another Comforter
  • That he may abide with you for ever
  • What is the Comforter?
  • Verse 26, The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, means Holy Spirit
  • Who shall teach you?
  • He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance
  • John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
  • The Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit
  • Who shall teach you?
  • He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
  • Roman 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
  • Also = should follow "world"
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
  • Here we have that little word (IF) we keep his commandments
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
  • He that don't keep his commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him
  • Always ask for forgiveness
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
  • The Holy Spirit will be with you, If you keep His word
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
  • The expression "as He" referring to the Son
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
  • God's word never changes
  • Eccl 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
    10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
    11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
  • The New Commandment = Jesus
  • Verse 7
  • Through Jesus, we can ask for forgiveness
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
  • You cannot always get alone with all people
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
  • This word "disorderly" in the Greek indicates laziness.
  • Withdraw from one who walks lazily in contradiction to teaching he received of us who work hard or serve with diligence.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
  • Brother = Christian
  • Light = God
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
  • Brother = Christian
  • If you hate = your in darkness, this is one that hates, because of jealous, or they think someone has talked about them.
  • Try and talk with them, some people you cannot get alone with
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

  • You don't want to be around a trouble maker, but forgive him and don't let hate build up inside of you.
  • God will take care of the wicked people
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
  • All the way back to the first earth age
  • God is the light giver, stay in the light
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
  • Written by John
  • You have overcome Satan, and false teaching
  • Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
  • If you put things of the world first
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
  • These three things, The Father said, you do as the world
  • Lust of the flesh
  • Lust of the eyes
  • Pride of life
  • Is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
  • In the beginning, you could see the beauty of the world
  • Don't go the ways of this world, all you think of is money, and how you can cheat someone
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
  • Last time = last hour
  • Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21
  • You're find Jesus tells us, Satan will come at the 6th trumpet
  • Christ returns at the 7th trumpet
  • Anti = instead of Christ
  • Satan shows the world he is Christ
  • Matthew 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
  • Don't be deceived, Many false teachers, False preachers use religion to deceived men.
  • 2 Thessalonians 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
    4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
    2 Thessalonians 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.
  • 6th seal, you need too know, Satan The false Christ appears to be Christ by imitating the Messiah, Don't be deceived.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
  • Rejection of the truth
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
  • An unction = You know better
  • John 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
    42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
    43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
    44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
  • Ye are of your father the devil
  • 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
    46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
    47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
    48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth
  • Truth will always set you free
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
  • Who is a liar = He denieth the Father and the Son
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
  • God is the judge
  • We are not to judge, but to watch their ways = Matthew 13, Matthew 24
  • If they aren't teaching from God's word, you'll know it's false
  • Study, Chapter by charter, verse by verse
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  • remain = same as "abide"
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
  • John's writing
26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
  • Seduce you = lead astray, or cause to error
  • 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
    9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
    10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
  • 1 Corinthians15:18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
  • Fallen asleep = Death of the flesh
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
  • Anointing = same as "unction" in verse 20 = You know better
  • Mark 13: 11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit.
  • You will be Deliver up for my sake, the Holy Spirit will speak through you
  • Seven Spirits of God = Power, Riches, Wisdom , Strength, Honour , Glory, Blessing (Revelation 4:5)
  • Matthew 24:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
    32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not b
    e forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
    33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
  • This is the unforgiving sin - Christ told God's Elect - neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye:  but the Holy Spirit.
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
  • When = the texts read "if"
  • Appear = same as "made manifest" verse 19
  • Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
  • 7th trump - After Satan tribulation, then the sign of the Son of man in heaven:
  • 27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
  • If ye know that he is righteous = Those that try to do, what's right
  • Doeth = practiseth
  • Born = begotten = read Instead of ashamed, reads "confounded by Him"
  • If in Him presence ye have know Him that is faithful, know that every one that doeth the truth hath been born of Him.
