1 Peter 1

1 Peter 1                                                                                                      1 Peter 1    1 Peter 1    1 Peter 1

1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
  • It says here the elect were in the foreknowledge of God.
  • He knew them before this world was.
  • This applies then to the question of when you were chosen.
  • Jeremiah was the prophet that foretold even the sequence of events that would happen to Jerusalem and bring this age to a close.
  • Jeremiah was certainly one of God's elect.
  • Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
  • Those who have searched the Scriptures won’t be surprised by the second appearing of Jesus Christ. Many others will be worshipping antichrist, when Christ returns.
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
  • You haven’t seen Jesus, yet you believe. The Holy Spirit has touched your heart, and you know He is real. You have searched the Scriptures, and found them true.
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
  • The prophets of the Old Testament foretold the coming of Messiah. You know Who He is, and you aren’t going to be deceived by the fake. You have searched the Scriptures, and you are going to be with Christ forever.
10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
  • Psalms 22, written almost a thousand years before the crucifixion, foretold of the sufferings of Christ. You know the prophecies of the prophets always come true, because they didn’t speak the words of men, but the Word of God.
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
  • Even the angels stoop down to have a look, and they rejoice every time that a lost soul is found.
  • 1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
  • Focus your mind on God’s Word. Don’t be as a reed shaken in the wind by first this doctrine and then another.
  • What is the revelation of Jesus Christ?
  • He told you in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 what is going to happen and what He expects of you. It is written. Search the Scriptures.
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
  • No one is perfect. Our very best is as filthy rags compared to the holiness of God. But our Father really loves those who try to do what is right by His Word.
  • Searching and studying His Word brings us closer to Him.
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
  • We are judged by our works. As we sojourn in the flesh here on earth, we should pass the time revering God.
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
  • Reason = God's people, and redeemed by the blood of Christ (the Lamb).
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
  • The traditions of men can’t save you, but the precious blood of the Lamb is able to save you.
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
  • The Messiah was foreordained in the first earth age.
  • The events leading up to and after His coming are made known to us through God’s Word.
  • There is a false messiah coming, and we have the second advent, when the true Messiah returns, still ahead.
  • Search the Scripture
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
  • All flesh is as grass = as the flower of the grass he shall pass away
  • James 1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
    11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
    12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
    13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
    14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
    15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
  • The word of the Lord endureth for ever
