Numbers 20
Numbers 20:1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole
congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people
abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
-
Then came = This was in the first month of the
fortieth year after Exodus.
-
A gap of 37 1/2 years between the spies.
-
The old nation dead.
-
History of new nation begins here, and each
event singled out and emphasised.
-
Kadesh = The second time in eventful Kadesh.
-
No history since the first time-all a blank,
except a list of journeying in chapter 33.
-
Miriam: died early in fortieth year; Aaron in
the fifth month.
2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered
themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
-
Contention of People. Chiding with Moses.
-
There was no water, they gathered against Moses
and against Aaron
3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we
had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
-
They were saying, Would God that we had died
when our brethren died before the LORD!
4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this
wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
-
Why have ye brought up the congregation of the
LORD into this wilderness to die
5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in
unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines,
or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
-
Events: Journeying and Murmurings
-
Calling attention to each of the three items.
-
Grapes, No mere accident that these three were
brought. These symbolical of the "fruit" of our
Land, even of Him Who is the true Vine. He comes
first.
-
Pomegranates. His worship comes next (largely
used symbolically in tabernacle and temple, see
Exodus 27:28,29 and 2 Chronicles 3 and 4).
-
Figs. The common support of life in the East,
next to bread. These symbolize the common duties
of life. (The grapes and pomegranates its
luxuries and spiritual privileges).
6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the
door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their
faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
-
Moses and Aaron fell upon their faces: and the
glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together,
thou, and Aaron
thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and
it shall
give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of
the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
-
The LORD spake unto Moses, saying, speak ye unto
the rock before their eyes; and it shall give
forth his water
9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the
rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you
water out of this rock?
-
Hears where Moses was getting tired of the people complaining
-
This is why you don't want to be around me people.
-
Verse
12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not,
to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall
not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
-
When God says to do something, do it. Don't listen to men
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock
twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank,
and their beasts also.
-
Moses lifted up his rod he smote the rock twice
-
Verse 8, Did Moses do as God told him?
-
No
-
God told Moses to Speak ye unto the rock before
their eyes; and it shall give forth his water.
-
1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same
spiritual drink: for they drank of that
spiritual Rock that followed them: and
that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well
pleased: for they were overthrown in the
wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples,
to the intent we should not lust after
evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as
were some of them; as it is written, The people
sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication,
as some of them committed, and fell in one day
three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ,
as some of them also tempted, and were
destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some
of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the
destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto
them for ensamples: and they are
written for our admonition, upon whom
the ends of the world are come.
-
1 Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take
heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you
but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to
be tempted above that ye are able; but
will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee
from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not
the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread
which we break, is it not the communion of the
body of Christ?
17 For we being many are one bread, and
one body: for we are all partakers of that one
bread.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they
which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the
altar?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing,
or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols
is any thing?
20 But I say, that the things which the
Gentiles sacrifice, they
sacrifice to devils, and not to
God: and I would not that ye
should have fellowship with devils.
12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not,
to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall
not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
-
The LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye
believed me not
-
Therefore ye shall not bring this congregation
into the land which I have given them.
-
Here's we see a type of what will happen in the
end times.. God's elect will be deliver up.
-
What did God tell us to do?
-
Mark 13:9 But take heed to yourselves: for they
shall deliver you up to councils; and in the
synagogues ye shall be beaten (mocked): and ye shall be
brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for
a testimony against them.
10 And the gospel must first be published among
all nations.
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you
up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall
speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever
shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye:
for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy
Spirit.
12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to
death, and the father the son; and children
shall rise up against their parents, and shall
cause them to be put to death.
13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my
name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the
end, the same shall be saved.
-
Shall be killed = Satan kills the two witnesses,
after 3 1/2 days Christ will return at the 7th
trumpet (Revelation 11)
-
This word beaten is mocked.
-
Did God said, you will be deliver up and you
speak?
-
You need to know what to do?
-
Why?
-
Because, this is the unforgiveable sin.
-
Revelation 9:4 (KJV) And it was commanded
them that they should not hurt the grass of the
earth, neither any green thing, neither any
tree; but only those men which have not the seal
of God in their foreheads.
-
Luke 21:15 For I will give you a mouth and
wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be
able to gainsay nor resist.
16 And ye shall
be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and
kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you
shall they cause to be put to death. 17 And
ye shall be hated of all men for my
name's sake. 18 But there shall not an hair
of your head perish. 19 In your patience
possess ye your souls.
13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove
with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus
saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath
befallen us:
15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a
long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
16 And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an
angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in
Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass
through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of
the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, we will not
turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy
borders.
18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out
against thee with the sword.
-
Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me
-
Edom = Russia
19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way:
and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I
will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him
with much people, and with a strong hand.
-
Again Russia was again them going through their land
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border:
wherefore Israel turned away from him.
-
If you notice, they didn't ask God
22 And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed
from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of
the land of Edom, saying,
24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into
the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye
rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
-
Aaron meaning teacher
-
Aaron and Moses shall not enter into the promise
land
-
Because ye rebelled against my word at the water
of Meribah
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son:
and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
-
Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put
them upon Eleazar
-
The Lord told Moses to do this.
27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor
in the sight of all the congregation.
-
Moses done as God said.
-
Moses stripped Aaron of his garments
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar
his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and
Eleazar came down from the mount.
-
Aaron died, Aaron was 3 months older than Moses
-
The first high priest was dead Aaron, Aaron son
is now high priest, Eleazar
-
Eleazar was the third son of Aaron
-
Eleazar means help of God
-
These were not supernatural men, Moses and Aaron
were just men
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned
for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
