Psalms 22
Psalms 22 was written over 1000 years before Christ Was Crucified
On The Cross, Matthew 27
Psalms 22:1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so
far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
-
Jesus never called His Father God. He always
called Him Father
-
Of David = relating to or concerning David's Son
and David's Lord = "The root and
the offspring of David"
-
David "being a prophet and knowing . . . spake
of".
-
Revelation 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine
angel to testify unto you these things in the
churches. I am the root and the offspring of
David, and the bright and morning star.
-
These three Psalms (22, 23, 24) relate to the
sufferings and the glory of the Man Christ
Jesus.
-
Psalms 22 = The Good Shepherd on Earth, in Death
-
John 10:11 I am the
good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life
for the sheep.
-
Psalms 23 = The Great Shepherd, in Heaven, by
Resurrection
-
Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, that
brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that
great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood
of the everlasting covenant,
-
Psalms 24 = The Chief Shepherd, coming in His
Glory to earth and Zion, again
-
1 Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd
shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory
that fadeth not away.
-
Revelation 19:1 And after these things I
heard a great voice of much people in heaven,
saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and
honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
-
Psalms 22 is Christ as the sin offering
-
Psalms 40, as the burnt offering
-
Psalms 69, as the trespass offering
-
My GOD, my GOD = God as Almighty in relation to
the creature; not God in covenant relation with
His servant.
-
Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi,
lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted,
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
-
Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour
Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my
God, why hast thou forsaken me?
-
Jesus never called His Father God, He always
called Him
Father
-
Jesus quoted Psalms 22:1 were the scripture
would be fulfilled = This was
written in Psalms 22:1 = 1,000 years before it
happen.
-
The Psalm is Christ's prayer and plea on the
Cross
-
It begins with "My God, My God", and it ends
with "It is finished".
-
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had
received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:
and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit.
-
If the Lord uttered the whole of this Psalm on
the cross, the dying malefactor must have
"heard", and believed.
-
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
-
The "kingdom" had been referred to by Christ in
Psalm 22:22-30
-
Roaring = lamentation = spoken of a lion,
and of thunder.
-
It is believed by some scholars (including this
humble student) that our Lord actually quoted
all, or, most of this Psalm while hanging on the
Cross.
2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night
season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver
them.
5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and
were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the
people.
-
Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected
of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with
grief: and we hid as it were our faces
from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him
not.
7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they
shake the head saying,
-
These were the words of the chief priests
-
John 19:6
When the chief priests therefore and officers saw
him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
Pilate saith unto them,
Take ye him, and crucify him:
for I find no fault in him.
-
Kenites Crucified Jesus = Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and
tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich)
and I know the blasphemy of them which
say they are Jews, and are not, but are the
synagogue of Satan.
-
Matthew 27:41 Likewise also the
chief priests mocking him,
with the scribes and elders,
said,
42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel,
let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
8 He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him,
seeing he delighted in him.
-
He trusted on the Lord = devolved all on
-
Worm = Hebrew tola', not the ordinary
word for "worm", but the crimson coccus
from which the scarlet dye was obtained. = Hence
rendered "scarlet
-
Jacob, so called Isaiah 41:14 Fear not,
thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I
will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
-
Christ thus took the lowest place of His People.
-
Matthew 27:43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for
he said, I am the Son of God.
-
Bible study Matthew 27
9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope
when I was upon my mother's breasts.
10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's
belly.
11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
-
None to help = Compare to Psalm 69:20
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full
of heaviness: and I looked for some to take
pity, but there was none; and for
comforters, but I found none.
-
He was alone in this wondrous work.
Only the women looking on afar off.
-
Mark 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among
whom was Mary Magdalene, and
Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;)
and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is,
the
day before the Sabbath.
12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me
round.
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring
lion.
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my
heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
-
In the midst of my bowels = within me
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my
jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
-
John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that
all things were now accomplished, that the
scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed
me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
-
Dogs refers to "Enemies" being implied (not
expressed).
-
Assembly = congregation: in civic aspect.
-
Wicked = breakers up.
-
They pierced, etc. = "As a lion [they
break up my hands and my feet". The Hebrew text
reads ka'ari = as a lion (the "k" = as).
-
Take the "k" as part of the verb k'aru,
and alter the vowel points, making it read "they
pierced".
-
It is better to translate the Hebrew text
literally, and supply the Ellipsis of the verb
from Isaiah 38:13. I reckoned till
morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all
my bones: from day even to night wilt
thou make an end of me.
-
"They break up". The meaning is exactly the
same, and agrees with John 19:37
And again another scripture saith, They shall
look on him whom they pierced.
17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
-
Tell = count.
-
The whole description applies to death by
crucifixion only.
-
Look and stare = look for and see.
-
In this idiom the former verb includes the
feeling implied by the context.
18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
-
Who are they? The kenites
-

this church, Why?

Revelation 2:14 I have a few things against
thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the
children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to
commit fornication.
They say they are Jews, and are not,
but are the synagogue of Satan.
-
At the foot of the cross, they were casting lots
for His clothes
-
Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that
it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my
garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
-
Mark 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they
parted his garments,
casting lots upon them, what every man
should take.
-
Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father,
forgive them; for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
-
John 19:24 They said therefore among
themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots
for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture
might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my vesture they did
cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did.
19 But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to
help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
-
John 12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and
what shall I say? Father, save me from this
hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
-
Darling = only one = my one own priceless
possession; for "my life", answering to "my
soul" in the preceding line.
21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns
of the unicorns.
-
Unicorns = wild ox
-
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he
also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that
is, the devil;
-
Another name for Satan = death
-
Through death he might destroy
him (Satan) that
had the power of death = that
is, the devil

-
Ye the seed of Israel = Genesis 32:28 And
he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob,
but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with
God and with men, and hast prevailed.
-
Fear = revere = Referring to Israel. Hebrew word
yare'. Not the same word as in
first line and Ps 22:25.
24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the
afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto
him, he heard.
-
The affliction = the humiliation
-
The afflicted = the patient One

vows before them that fear him.

nations.
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that

the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and
smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to
Babylon.
2 One basket had very good
figs, even like the figs that are
first ripe: and the other basket had very
naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they
were so bad. 3 Then said the LORD unto me,
What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the
good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil,
