Orion is the most brilliant of all the constellations. The figure contained therein is a great hunter with a mighty club in his right hand shown in the act of striking. In his left hand he holds the skin of a slain lion. His left foot is in the act of crushing the head of the enemy. He wears a brilliant starry girdle from which hangs a mighty sword. The hilt of the sword is in the form of the head and body of a lamb; showing the mighty prince is "the Lamb that was slain".

Rigel or Rigol = The next in brilliancy (in the left foot) is called "Rigel" or "Rigol''; "the foot that crusheth". The lifted foot in the very act of crushing the head of the enemy thus illustrates the name.

Taurus  (The Bull) = Messiah, the coming Judge of all the earth. The picture is that of a Bull rushing forward with mighty energy and fierce wrath, his horns set so as to push his enemies, and pierce them through and destroy them. It is a prophecy of Christ, the coming Judge, and Ruler, and "Lord of all the earth."

Every thing points to the important truth, and all turns on the fact that the Lord is COMING TO RULE!
This is the central truth of all prophecy. "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." All hope for Creation, all hope for the world, all hope for Israel, all hope for the Church, turns on this, that "Jesus is coming again," and that when He comes His saints, "the daughters of the King" (like the Pleiades and Hyades), will be with Him.

He will come and gather the members of His Body unto Himself, before He thus comes with them to destroy all His enemies and "judge (or rule) the world in righteousness."
When we read this Sign of Taurus, therefore, we are to understand that His Church will be with Him, safe from all judgment.

At a very early period these signs were appropriated to the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and borne upon their "standards." This may be traced in the Blessing of Jacob (Gen 49), and in the Blessing of Moses (Deut 33). Taurus was assigned to Joseph, or rather to his two tribes of Ephraim (Great Britain) and Manasseh (USA), like the two powerful horns. Palilicium = Taurus  (The Bull) = Other stars are named Palilicium (Hebrew), belonging to the judge; Was at (Arabic), centre or foundation; Al Thuraiya (Arabic), the abundance; Vergiliae (Latin), the centre (Arabic, vertex) turned on, rolled round. Every thing points to the important truth, and all turns on the fact that the Lord is COMING TO RULE!

Pleiades = Seven Stars = Taurus  (The Bull) = there is the cluster of stars known as the Pleiades. This word, which means the congregation of the judge or ruler, comes to us through the Greek Septuagint as the translation of the Hebrew kimah, which means the heap or accumulation.

Vergiliae (Latin), the centre

Vertex = (Arabic, vertex) turned on, rolled round.

Seir = (Egyptian), "the Prince''

Sirius = The brightest star (in the head) and the brightest in the whole heavens, is called "Sirius" (from Sir, or Seir) meaning "Prince, Guardian, the Victorious". Though this "Dog-Star", as it came to be known, was associated with burning heat, pestilence and disaster to the earth, it was not so in more ancient times.

Sirius = A significant prophetic note can be found in the star Sirius, which is derived from Seir". Taken in connection with the name of the figure in the Egyptian Zodiac, as often given, we have "Naz-Seir" or "Nazer"; "Naz-Seir", meaning "the Sent Prince". According to the Scriptures, the "Rod" promised to come forth from the stem or stump of Jesse is called "Netzer" in the Hebrew Bible.

There, it is translated "the Branch" who should "smite the earth with the rod of His mouth, and slay the wicked with the breath of His lips". Jesus spent His earlier years at an obscure little village by the name of "Nazareth". Thus, all the star-names harmoniously weave a consistent and magnificent picture of the "Sent Prince"; the "Branch"; the "Netzer" of Isaiah; the "Naz-seir-ene" of the prophetic constellations, and the "Nazarene" spoken of by the prophets (Matt. 2:23).

Syriac = Taurus the bull = Pleiades= The Syriac name for the Pleiades is Succoth, which means booths.
