Ezra 3:1 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel
were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man
to Jerusalem.
-
Cities = their cities
-
Ezra 2:2 Which came with Zerubbabel:
Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai,
Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The
number of the men of the people of Israel:
-
Nehemiah 7:1 Now it came to pass, when the wall
was built, and I had set up the doors, and the
porters and the singers and the Levites were
appointed,
2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah
the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem:
for he was a faithful man, and feared God above
many.
3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of
Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and
while they stand by, let them shut the doors,
and bar them: and appoint watches of the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his
watch, and every one to be over against his
house.
4 Now the city was large and great: but
the people were few therein, and the houses were
not builded.
2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests,
and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the
altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is
written in the law of Moses the man of God.
-
The altar is set up.
-
Jeshua was a high priest
-
Jozadak = The son of Seraiah (1 Chronicles
6:14,15).
-
Ezra was the son of Seraiah (Ezra 7:1).
-
Therefore Ezra was brother to Jozadak and uncle
to Joshua the high priest.
-
Zerubbabel = was called Zorobabel
-
Matthew 1:12-14 And after they were brought to
Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and
Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat
Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim;
and Achim begat Eliud;
-
God = the true God
3 And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because
of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings
thereon unto the Lord, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
-
Ezra 4:11 This is the copy of the letter that
they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the
king; Thy servants the men on this side the
river, and at such a time.
12 Be it known unto the king, that the Jews
which came up from thee to us are come unto
Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad
city, and have set up the walls thereof, and
joined the foundations.
13 Be it known now unto the king, that, if this
city be builded, and the walls set up again,
then will they not pay toll, tribute, and
custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue
of the kings.
14 Now because we have maintenance from the
king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see
the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and
certified the king;
15 That search may be made in the book of the
records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in
the book of the records, and know that this city
is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and
provinces, and that they have moved sedition
within the same of old time: for which cause was
this city destroyed.
16 We certify the king that, if this city be
builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by
this means thou shalt have no portion on this
side the river.
4 They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered
the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the
duty of every day required;
-
Nehemiah 8:1 And all the people gathered
themselves together as one man into the street
that was before the water gate; and they
spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of
the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded
to Israel. .
5 And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new
moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and
of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the Lord.
-
The Hebrew calendar was setup under the Solar
Calendar not the Lunar calendar
6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt
offerings unto the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord
was not yet laid.
7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat,
and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring
cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant
that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.
-
Carpenters = artificers
-
Bring cedar trees = 1 Kings 5:6 Now therefore
command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of
Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy
servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy
servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not
among us any that can skill to hew timber like
unto the Sidonians.
8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at
Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the
priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the
captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years
old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.
-
Zerubbabel held the
plummet
-
Zechariah 4::10 For who hath
despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and
shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those
seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro
through the whole earth.
-
A ''plummet'' is a tin stone
-
It's a plumb bob weighting heavily
on the end of a string, The weight will keep the string
straight with no varying from the right to the left.
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his
sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the
house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren
the Levites.
-
Jeshua = Not Jeshua the high-priest,
before mentioned, but another Jeshua, a Levite,
mentioned in the parallel passage.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord,
they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the
sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of
David king of Israel.
-
They set the priests = or, the priests took
their stand
-
Cymbals = Dual form, meaning two metal discs
struck together, making a clashing sound.
-
Zechariah 4:10 For who hath despised the
day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and
shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel
with those seven; they
are the
eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through
the whole earth.
11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto
the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward
Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised
the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
-
Mercy = loving kindness, or grace.
12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who
were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of
this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many
shouted aloud for joy:
-
Chief = heads
-
Jeremiah 33:10 Thus saith the Lord; Again there
shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall
be desolate without man and without beast, even
in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of
Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and
without inhabitant, and without beast,
11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness,
the voice of the bridegroom, and the
voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall
say, Praise the Lord of hosts: for the Lord is
good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of
them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise
into the house of the Lord. For I will cause to
return the captivity of the land, as at the
first, saith the Lord.
13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy
from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with
a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.
-
So that =
This sight must have been
very affecting; a whole people, one part weeping
aloud with sorrow, the other shouting aloud for
joy; and on the same occasion too, in which both
sides felt an equal interest. The prophet
comforted them on this occasion, by assuring
them that the glory of this latter house should
exceed that of the former, because the Lord
would come to this temple, and fill it with His
glory.
-
Haggai 2:1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came
the word of the Lord by the prophet Haggai, saying,
-
Haggai's message took effect about three weeks later
Haggai 2:2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua
the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
This message is from God
3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye
see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
Who is left ? = Who is there among you, the
remnant?
Evidently there were some present who had seen
it.
This house = The Temple is regarded as one
throughout.
First = primitive
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, son
of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith
the Lord, and work: for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:
You have to work for God.
If God's with you, you're going to be blessed
God never promise us a rose garden, you have to
do the work
5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so
my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
So My Spirit = speaking by the prophets
Remaineth = or abideth
6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will
shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
Hebrews 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth:
but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more
I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the
removing of those things that are shaken, as of
things that are made, that those things which
cannot be shaken may remain.
This has to do with the last days, you need to
know which rock you're going to worship
7th vial = God's pours out His wrath on those
that follows Satan and those that do Satan's work
Deut 32:29 O that they were
wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their
latter end!
30 How should one chase a thousand, and two
put ten thousand to flight, except their rock had sold them, and
the LORD had shut them up?
God's Elect understands the key of David, Our Rock is God
Lower = r = their rock = their god = Satan
31 For their rock is not as
our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
Ezekiel 28 = Tyrus means rock
Their rocks is Tyrus, Satan, Devil
Ezekiel 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of
thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I
bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I
will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that
behold thee.
19 All they that know thee among the people shall be
astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any
more.
Our Rock is God
1
Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink
the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that
followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
7th vial = God's pour out His wrath on those
that follows Satan and do Satan's work
7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I
will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the
Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
