Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
  • Always teach God's word
  • Grievous = bitter, cutting, violent
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
  • A fools never teaches what's right
  • Use God's knowledge to teach God's word
  • If you love God, your going to study His word, not man word, which is fools words
  • The wise = wise ones will uses the word of God to teach what's right
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
  • God's watches all, everything you do is recorded in the books of life
  • At judgment time, the books are open
  • In every place, note the different places in the illustrations following
  • Beholding = taking note, or observing
  • The evil = evil ones
  • The good = good ones
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
  • The spirit is your spirit
  • A wholesome tongue = Gentleness of tongue
  • You can follow God or Satan, it's up to you
5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
  • Prudent = to use common sense
  • Prudent is to use wisdom
  • Prudent: "in a bounding righteousness is great strength, but the ungodly will perish root and branch."
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
  • If your ripping people off, your never going to find peace of mind
  • Treasure = "Strength" put by (of cause), for the treasures procured by it
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
  • All wisdom comes from God
  • A fool will listen to Satan
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
  • The wicked = lawless ones
  • Is an abomination, Cain
  • Genesis 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
  • He That Loves God Will Followeth What's Right
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
  • He that hates to hear God's word, they are going into the lake of fire, at the end of the millennium
  • God corrects those that He loves
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
  • For the wicked, that do evil.
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
  • A fool will never ask a wise person for advice
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
  • You can look in their faces and see if they are happy.
  • Merry = Joyful, or glad
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
  • The hearts of a wise person will always pray for more knowledge and study God's word.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
  • Afflicted = Poverty = evil = sad
  • Merry = Good
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
  • It's better to have knowledge of God's word, than things of the world
  • God is a substitute for every good thing, but nothing is a substitute for Him.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
  • At meal time, it's never good to be upset at the dinner table, you're get upset stomach
  • Never set down mad at the dinner table, its not good for you
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
  • Strife = contention, or discord
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
  • A lazy person is as an hedge of thorns
  • Never sent a lazy person to do anything, because they won't get the job done
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
  • A mother will try to correct their children
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
  • Wisdom = heart, for the knowledge it should posses
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
  • But they must "be' counsellers".
  • They are - "counsel is"
  • Hunt out the wise counsellors
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
  • It's good to give good advice, from God's word
  • In due season = in its season
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
  • Above = upward
  • The wise = a skilful one
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
  • Border - landmark
  • Note the contrast with "house"
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
  • The wicked = an evil doer, same word as "evil
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
  • Hateth Gifts = Hateth bribes
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
  • Heart = mind
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
  • God hears the righteous, but He far from the wicked
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
  • The word of God makes you feel good, the knowledge of understanding God's word
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
  • Of = tending or leading to
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
  • Instruction = correction, or discipline
  • Getteth understanding = possesseth a heart, Heart put by (of subject) for sense
  • Illustration: Job's friends (Job 42:7-9)
  • Job 42:7 And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
    8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
    9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the Lord commanded them: the Lord also accepted Job.
  • Get wisdom, means common sense
  • Wisdom Gives you the ability to do things that's right
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
