Proverbs 30:1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the
man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
- Agur = I shall fear
- Probably a master of assemblies, as in Ecclesiastes 12:11
- Ecclesiastes 12:11 Though he humble himself, and go
crouching, yet take good heed and beware of him, and thou shalt
be unto him as if thou hadst wiped a looking glass, and thou
shalt know that his rust hath not been altogether wiped away.

2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding
of a man.

3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

Learn = have been taught; with emphasis on
taught

Nor have = Nor yet have I

The Holy = Holy ones: or, the Most Holy One
4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the
wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath
established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his
son's name, if thou canst tell?

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their
trust in him.

God is pure = His Word

Word = saying or utterance

Pure = tried (in a furnace)

Psalms 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure
words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth,
purified seven times.

Unto them = Unto all them

Put their trust = flee for refuge
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a
liar.

Add thou not, A solemn warning based on Deut
4:12 And the Lord spake unto you out of the
midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the
words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a
voice.

Reprove thee
Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man
that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man
shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues
that are written in this book:

take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy

Emphatic = send a special reproof unto thee
7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be
poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be
found guilty.

Get all your facts right before you accuse
someone

11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless
their mother.

Cursing of this type

Generation = type

There is a type that curseth their father and
doth not bless their mother
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not
washed from their filthiness.

Impurity
-
This type think they know it all
13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids
are lifted up.

Pride
-
This type = think they are better than
anyone else
14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth
as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from
among men.

Violence
-
They have no compassion, they don't care about
the needy
-
Poor needy - not the same word as in verse 8, 9
15 The horse leach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are
three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is
enough:
-
Insatiableness
-
Horse leach = blood suckers = It is like the
"flesh" in man

In the natural and spiritual spheres "the dose
has to be increased"

This type = give me people
16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with
water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

This class, they're unstable
-
The grave = Sheol
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother,
the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall
eat it.

Despiseth to obey = despiseth obedience to
-
The raven, and these birds of prey always begin
with the eyes of a carcase
-
Mocking = A eyes that mocks, God doesn't like
-
The choice is yours, follow God or Satan
18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which
I know not:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the
way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
-
Nature will always explain itself
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her
mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

Way = manner, or conduct
-
Psalms 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man
cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto
according to thy word.

No wickedness = nothing: or, as we say, "no
harm"

This is a person that thinks they do no wrong
-
No one is perfect, they have left off God's word
21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it
cannot bear:
22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with
meat;
-
A fool going look for trouble
23 For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir
to her mistress.
-
She's unloved, you have trouble
-
Is heir to = has dispossessed, or become heiress
to
24 There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are
exceeding wise:
-
Four things little and wise
-
Little upon the earth = earth's little ones
-
Exceeding wise = In Hebrew = Wise, made wise =
wiser than the wise
25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the
summer;
-
Ants are workers
-
A people = so are those "made wise" who are
God's People
-
2 Tim 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known
the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee
wise unto salvation through faith which is in
Christ Jesus.
-
Ps 100:3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is
he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we
are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Not strong = very weak
-
Roman 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly.

Prepare = will prepare
26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the
rocks;
-
Conies, about the size of a rabbit
-
Inhabit clefts in the rocks; because having soft
feet, they cannot burrow as a rabbit can
-
So God's people abide in Christ's Rock
-
Houses = rock - is singular = house rock
-
They make their house in rock where no one can
harm them
-
But some men don't do this, because they love
trouble
27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
-
The locusts goes the ways of the wind
-
No king = so we have no visible king, yet when
"made wise" we see Him Who is invisible
-
John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world
seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live,
ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my
Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth
them, he it is that loveth me: and he that
loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I
will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these
words.

28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Christ is the member body of the church

With her hands = So we, by the hands of faith,
shall be found in the palace of the King of
kings

Kings' palaces = King's palace
29 There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

Four things graceful

Comely = it lack nothing
30 A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
-
A lion is king of the jungle, it's nature's ways
-
God has gave us a mind to do all this
31 A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no
rising up.
32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast
thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
-
Foolishly = stupidly things, or foolish
things you bring wrath on yourself
-
Thought evil = meditated (with evil intent)
33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing
of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth
strife.
-
If you abuse things too long, your going bring
wrath on yourself
