Genesis 28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said
unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
-
Blessed = This blessing God endorses, by sending
Jacob to Haran, as he had blessed Abraham to
bring him from Haran.
-
Genesis 28:13 And, behold, the Lord stood
above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham
thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land
whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and
to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the
earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west,
and to the east, and to the north, and to the
south: and in thee and in thy seed shall
all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep
thee in all places whither thou goest, and will
bring thee again into this land; for I will not
leave thee, until I have done that which I have
spoken to thee of.
-
Genesis 12:1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram,
Get thee out of thy country, and from thy
kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a
land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great
nation, and I will bless thee, and make
thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and
curse him that curseth thee: and in thee
shall all families of the earth be blessed.
-
Thou shalt not take the daughters of Canaan =
Genesis 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the
Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the
earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my
son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among
whom I dwell:
2 Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and
take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.
-
Padan-arain the plain of Syria.
3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that
thou mayest be a multitude of people;
4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee;
that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave
unto Abraham.
5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan-aram unto Laban, son of
Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram,
to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge,
saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
-
The effort of Esau to note what would not please
his parents.
-
Genesis 24:3 And I will make thee swear by
the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the
earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my
son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among
whom I dwell:
4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my
kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram;
-
Jacob obeyed his father and his mother
8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
-
Esau did not obeyed his father and his mother
-
Please not, Genesis 26:35 Which were a grief of
mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the
daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
-
Mahalath = She had a second name, Bashemath
-
Genesis 36:3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter,
sister of Nebajoth.
10 And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the
sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his
pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it
reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13 And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham
thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I
give it, and to thy seed;
-
Above it. = The Hebrew accent (zark'a)
emphasizes this as meaning "beside him". Compare
to Genesis 18:2 Where 'al is rendered "by".
-
Compare to Genesis 18:2 And he lift up his eyes
and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and
when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the
tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
-
It is not the angels, but the Divine
faithfulness and promise, which mark "this
place" and make it "the house of God".
-
Genesis 28:16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep,
and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place;
and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is
this place! this is none other but the house of
God, and this is the gate of heaven.
-
To thee = As He had said to Abraham and to
Isaac
-
Will I = Note the "shalls" and "wills" in this
and all these repetitions of God's covenant.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad
to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee
and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
-
Jacob in thy seed shall all the families of
the earth be blessed. Why? Because Jesus would
be born through her seed line.
-
Dust . . . Genesis 15:5 And he brought him forth
abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and
tell the stars, if thou be able to number them:
and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it
to him for righteousness.
-
In thee = Mark the personal gift
-
All = This can be fulfilled only in Christ.
-
I will not leave thee = This promise first
made, here, to Jacob for covenant grace; to the
People, for journey.
-
Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good
courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for
the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with
thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto
him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of
a good courage: for thou must go with this
people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn
unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt
cause them to inherit it.
-
To Joshua, for conflict = Joshua 1:5 There
shall not any man be able to stand before thee
all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses,
so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this
people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the
land, which I sware unto their fathers to give
them.
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that
thou mayest observe to do according to all the
law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn
not from it to the right hand or to the left,
that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou
goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of
thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day
and night, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all that is written therein: for
then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and
then thou shalt have good success.
-
To Solomon, for work = 1 Chronicles 28:20 And
David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of
good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be
dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be
with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake
thee, until thou hast finished all the work for
the service of the house of the Lord.
-
To us, for daily provision = Hebrews 13:5 Let
your conversation be without covetousness; and
be content with such things as ye have: for he
hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my
helper, and I will not fear what man shall do
unto me.
7 Remember them which have the rule over you,
who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose
faith follow, considering the end of their
conversation.
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day,
and for ever.

goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee,
until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this
place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other
but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put
for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

-
Genesis 28:11 And he lighted upon a certain
place, and tarried there all night, because the
sun was set; and he took of the stones of that

down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on
the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven:
and behold the angels of God ascending and
descending on it.
-
The stone = Not the so-called "Coronation
stone" in London: inasmuch as the heads of the
"Geological Survey of Great Britain" unanimously
declared that "no stone of that kind was to be
found in any part of the Holy Land whence it
traditionally comes".
-
Pillar = Afterwards forbidden.
-
Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor
graven image, neither rear you up a standing
image, neither shall ye set up any image of
stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I
am the Lord your God.
2 Ye shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my
sanctuary: I am the Lord.
3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my
commandments, and do them;
-
Deuteronomy 16:22 Neither shalt thou set thee up
any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.
-
Poured oil = A law before Moses
19 And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was
called Luz at the first.
-
Beth-el means the house of God
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in
this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
-
Vowed a vow = made a solemn vow
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my
God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of
all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
• Exactly 2520 years from the exile of
Benjamin, Iceland became an independent nation.
•
The first tribe to be conquered by the
Assyrians was Manasseh, in 745 B.C. Exactly
2520 years later America became a nation on
July 4, 1776.
(Leviticus. 26: 28-46) God warned Israel that if they persisted in continually
breaking His Laws, not only would curses come upon them.
He would punish them for seven times, (a time being 360 years, seven times would
be 2520 years) and would banish them from the land of Palestine and scatter them
among the heathens (like lost sheep)
